Default WN Jump seat and assigned seating

I’m sure this has been asked. I searched the WN thread with no hits. Any one care to chime in if they are aware of the changes to jump seat procedure? I assume the assigned seat change will naturally put the jump seaters boarding last.
thanks

I mean it's literally 2 threads below this on the front page of this forum...

Current procedure, subject to change, is if you sign up for the jumpseat you will be on the jumpseat unless the captain/csa/ops agent assign you a seat just prior to push. Jumpseaters can preboard but can't take a seat like olden times. If you're assigned a seat when signing up for the jumpseat, you may or may not be able to preboard, depending on who is working the gate.

Again, subject to change, negotiations are ongoing.

The new plan as of the email a couple days ago seems to be this:

JS boarding starts off just like it always has. You check in with customer service and get placed in line with the other standby pax. When you're cleared, for JS you get your boarding pass and pre-board so you can stuff your bag into an overhead bin near the front. That's where it changes though.

Instead of sitting in the back (because where?) you get to stand in the jetway, accept tips, and try to not look too uncomfortable as people mistake you for an oddly dressed SWA pilot or limo driver. Once boarding is complete, it can go 3 ways. If there are no seats available, you climb into the cockpit JS like usual and off you go. If there are seats available in the back but the CA wants to push quickly or bows to gate agent pressure to close the door and release brakes, we violate our industry JS agreements that say OAL crew can sit in the back, and you again climb into the cockpit JS and off you go. If there are seats available in the back and the CA is willing to follow the full new procedure, the CA will evict you from the JS and you'll walk back up the jetway, walk over to the CS desk, stand in line at the CS desk, inform the CS agent that you're a jumpseater and the CA sent you back up to get a seat. The CS will then assign you the best of whatever seats remain open. Which is likely to be in the child-sized last row, since instead of commuting crew getting to choose a seat during preboarding, now they're guaranteed to get the absolute least desirable seats in the plane.

See, it's all very well thought out! Send complaints to [email protected]

This will be amended in short order once I and many other captains start delaying flights to make sure the company and offline jumpseaters are taken care of.

Dear Lord. The old procedure was nine thousand percent better than this one. Why the change??

Cuz they have to reinvent how JS are assigned seats because we do it better than everyone else. (After failing spectacularly they’ll quietly do what everyone else does).

These policies come from people who never fly jets and sit in a cubicle trying to justify their salary.

If I were king-inside twenty minutes, clear standbys then assign jumps.

when is the last time you've seen a cpt get out of his seat on a turn besides use the lav.
Guarantee the cpt will say " hey go get a seat"
Js will go to CSA to get a seat. Ops will send PWB go down and close the door to jet bridge. ask if tjeu got version x. Close the door and watch plane push. All while cpt just assumes everything went fine behind the cockpit and JS seat guy stand in terminal watching plane push since only ops agent can open the door.
