What has been your average credit monthly in 2018?
I understand that it depends on what QOL you are looking for, I have friends at 72 and others at 90/month in their first year. Trying to understand what is reasonably feasible if you want to fly as much as possible on 1st year pay.

You can work as much as you want if you're willing to pick up trips on your days off.

It’s hard to say, will you be living in base? If so, there’s plenty of time you’ll get call on your days off if you’re willing to work, especially out of Vegas. If you commute, sometime there’s not enough notice to make it in for your report time.

Skypilotsv1984 08-19-2018 11:37 AM

I credited 80-85 hours living in base on the old contract.

Well you can't pick up open time trips when on reserve so it just depends. If they call you on your days off you can make some good credit but if they don't call you it's out of your control. Once you hold a regular or relief line you can do whatever you want.

Any Idea how long it is to get a Line At ACY?

I live on Long Island which is about a 3 hour drive. I know they require a 3 hour call out for reserve call out

No idea as ACY is a very small base. More of a flying club really. Honestly you would probably have much better QOL at any of the big three or Jetblue as NYC is junior for all.

Yes this. A line will take years now, we hired a bunch of FOs in ACY who are local, so the time to a line will be at least 2 years (IMO). A few years ago it was a few months to hold a line (if you wanted one, reserve goes pretty senior in ACY).

As an ACY guy, I agree with Ronny (2 years). Currently at 1 year and will slowly increase unless new block hours are added to ACY.

Aviator421 08-21-2018 07:53 AM

Im looking at ACY as a base since I live 2 hours away.. so it has a year reserve but are you flying on reserve alot? Know your trips ahead of time? More overnights then day trips? Sorry for all the questions just trying to prepare myself.

Reserves are flying 30-60 hours; however, we are coming off the busy summer season. It will most likely be less heading into the fall. You usually know that you will be flying the day before, except when weather causes a shuffle and you get the call at 3am when your reserve starts.

Most trips are 3/4 days, but there are some day trips that float around opentime. Living 2 hours away is a comfortable distance to make a 3 hours “at the aircraft ready to depart” last minute reserve assignment (just have your bag packed and ready).

Aviator421 08-21-2018 08:28 AM

Thank you for your reply! I know its hard to plan anything in this business.

Does anyone know the time to hold a line in DTW/ORD? I am currently in the hiring pool and expecting a November class date. I live in northern NJ and my drive time to ACY is anywhere from 2hr20m up to 3hrs. I'm a little to far north to make the reserve time. I am about 50 minutes from KEWR, would it make more sense to just commute to another base?

Surely you can find a good "camping" spot, like a Starbucks, that gets you close enough to ACY to make report times, but lets you sleep in your own bed.

YourMom 09-04-2018 05:24 AM

I would say 95% of the time on reserve here you will know about the reserve assignment the night before. They will put a NTY on your schedule or the actual trip the night before. Sometimes they call you the day before and then you are released until showtime.

Sept 17 hire, I’m right on the line between relief lines and reserve in ORD, if that’s helpful at all for ya

Experience must vary between bases because more then half the time I get called at 3am rather then the night before.

Then your the victim of an abnormal amount of R03 sick calls...it’s in they’re best interest to attempt to get you notified the night prior within the confines of the CBA... they ALWAYS attempt to cover the next days OT when the afternoon shift comes in at 2pm EST.

Are you checking your schedule the night before? 9 out of 10 times it'll be on your schedule.

Yep I always check the night before.

If you’re flying pairings from the bid packet (not hand built) and don’t see the trip on your schedule the night before then your base and seat have a lot of last minute sick calls for early shows if you’re getting surprise calls at 3am

Friends don’t let friends bid R3 anyway

It’s not by choice, but if I have to work reserve and I can only hold holidays off on R3 it is what it is

You are all forgetting one major detail. When PBS comes out and Reserves are NO LONGER ALLOWED TO DROP EVEN ONE SINGLE DAY, your time to a line will increase dramatically. I highly doubt "reserve will go senior" anymore.

That is truth. The inability to even use voluntary float vacation will have Senior rsv bidding back to lines a lot of months. It’s a load of poo.

Perhaps you can proof read first? Don’t take it so personal... I think you need to drink two beers.

It is easier to take someone serious if they don't sound dumb.

Yet the same folks who say what you just did above will also be the same folks who votes a man that sounds dumb on twitter and in his speeches, The President of the United States of America.

If he can sound dumb the we’re all allowed, and you must take dumb people seriously even if you don’t like them! The leader of the free world sounds dumb every time I read his tweet or hear him speak, a great example to our kids.

Right on playa! Write on...

This guy must hate strong economies and low unemployment. Maybe an airline down in Venezuela will hire him? Capitalism is overrated, huh comrade?

No man do not prejudge me. I voted for Trump and I’m man enough to admit my mistake. Like many others, I helped elect a self-righteous retard by selecting the lesser of two evils thanks to FBI Director Comey’s statements just prior to Election Day & to help protect religious liberties.

It’s not about the economy or capitalism, both parties have and can do great things for the economy & both parties can and will do bad things for the economy!

Arrogance and greed is distorting facts! America is great and has always been great because of men like John McCain! Not the privileged billionaires that have used bankruptcies to gain status.

To the grammar police comrades who are hypocrites back on topic please. I’m sorry, I meant to say you are perfect in every way my Lord’s. Let me crawl back into my hole because I’m not a member of your XXX party and I must be dumb & stupid because I don’t support who you support. Smh.

I pray for America, land that love & gave many years of my life to defending her & gladly will again if called.

Good day to you. I hope you have meaningful purpose in life beyond being a pilot and making one line snarky comments. Indifferent attitudes like that speaks volume to personality and character.

Stay positive my friend.

Qotsaautopilot 09-09-2018 04:40 PM

I too am a no party affiliate and voted for this president. Regret my decision every single day just on his Supreme Court selections alone. How he has acted and represented me and fellow Americans is an embarrassment. I say that without exaggeration. He’s actually a terrible person.

THAT^^^^^^^^!!!!!!

And my only excuse for voting for the sleazy bastard was that he was immensely better than his opponent.

Qotsaautopilot 09-09-2018 05:32 PM

I can’t say with confidence that that is true anymore.

Not being affiliated with a single party and sharing some beliefs with both, I do a lot of research on each candidate down the card and usually select candidates from both parties and independents. I don’t select candidates based on a strategy of have or not having a single party in power.

I can safely say this November I will be supplementing my normal voting practices with a bit of strategy. Any candidate that aligns with trump in any way is an outmatic No vote. Any opponent cannot be worse than a one that aligns with this joke of a president. If there is not a clear alignment with trump by either candidate I MAY vote for the one that will marginalize him the best.

Congress is supposed to have equal power to the president but some of these congressmen that know he’s terrible and support him anyway because they are afraid of the republican base are tilting the power scale in his favor and disgracing their own offices.
