Refer to last page of the thread that (for now) appears right below this. Appears as though we aren't hiring many right now so that likely means they aren't putting any resources towards recruitment.

Any insight as to how to prepare for a "meet the chiefs" event? I would assume that it is similar to a meeting a job fair, suit/tie, resume, letters of rec, etc... with some HR type questions?

Heading to one in a few weeks and I definitely want to make the most of it. Any tips/hints from you guys that have attended would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I would say it's more of a get to know you questions, "What do you like to do for fun?" stuff like that. Just be yourself.

Be ready to answer "Why Spirit? Why not Delta?" Be able to articulate personal stories and experiences.

If you have ever worked under Delta you might develop a hatred for them. Just ask a comair pilot or another regional that was whipsawed and put through bankruptcy, merger, crappy contracts. You could say when I walk through the terminal and a Delta pilot doesn't nod to me, let alone look at me or wave to me, that makes me think they are the most egotistical bunch of pilots and I don't want to work for that. Say gosh it's nice to meet Spirit pilots and when I do we shoot the breeze like it's a barbecue. I met a Delta pilot that asked if I had my app in and I said no I like it here at Spirit, his face turned in disgust like I'm crazy..... tell them those stories.

I’m so excited, I just received an invite for a Meet the Chief’s in November.

I’m assuming the same as above, job fair prep. This is my first one ever and I hope I’m on the right track with my preparation.

If anyone wants to get together and work on some things (Atlanta Meet the Chiefs) feel free to reach out via PM.

Just be yourself. Don’t wrap yourself around the axle worrying about what to say or how to say it. Crack some jokes and relax a little. This isn’t Delta...

Funny how not long ago (prior to contract) we wanted to be compared to DL/UA etc for pay purposes, but now we just need to accept that we're spirit, oh the irony.

The interview process has nothing to do with the contract. He's right, that the interview process is completely different.

Comparing "meet the chiefs" to contract negotiations... Good call there windshear. Maybe the stupidest post of the month.

You can't go wrong with that, just make sure it's not yellow.

DickBurns 10-31-2018 07:59 AM

You can't go wrong with a yellow tie.

You're right, wear a red and blue tie.

Amen....
Grey or blue suit never hurt anybody. White shirt..clean and acceptable tie.
Not one single person in the history of job interviews has looked “bad” in the company’s eyes for looking good.
Look your best.
It CANNOT hurt you.
Looking like a douche definitely can.
Use your judgment

Good luck!!

While we’re talking about it, I’ve heard it said that black suits are frowned upon at job fairs. Anyone have an opinion on that? Feel like that’s overthinking it.

I've never heard such a thing. You can't go wrong with black or a dark blue.

TransWorld 11-01-2018 02:14 PM

I would avoid wearing this suit to the interview. . .

Agree! For $100 the material is probably very cheap. You can probably get some better quality at the Mens Wearhouse. ;)

A thousand polyesters gave their lives for that suit!

If you want to look like a maitre d’ or like you are going to a funeral wear a black suit, otherwise Navy, dark blue, grey.

Black suits are for funerals
Go charcoal

Ducttape 11-02-2018 08:14 AM

Well the entire point of Spirit is they aren't going to bust your nuts over the color of your suit or tie. We hired a guy wearing a yellow suit.

This isn't Delta where every applicant shows up in the exact 2 button navy suit with red tie, simply because the interview consultant told them this is the interview uniform.

Dress like a grown up, and its not an issue. Most interviews usually begin with the interviewers telling people to take their suit jackets off and relax; this isnt a test, its how things are.

If you really want to "look the part," show up in a NorthFace and they will know you are Spirit material!

I wore a calm yellow tie (not spirit yellow) but enough yellow that it was clear. did it help or hurt me get the job? no idea. but it was a nice match for my charcoal suit

CAirBear 11-02-2018 02:19 PM

How many people attend each session would you say? How much FaceTime do you get with Chief Pilots and others?

Thanks! Looking forward to it.
