If I wanted to fly the wide bodies, then yeah I am turning my back on some decent cash. However, that’s not my goal. With family at home, I don’t want to be on the other side of the globe stuck while a family emergency ensues!

Cool thing is, as long as you have stayed relavent and updated and current if you find that the Spirit Wings no longer suit you you likely have a 25-27 year career ahead of you at one of the Major airlines.

I’ve also chatted with these guys too, White Morpheous’s dad and James White’s step Mother. I say step mother out of respect sense he went through with the surgery.

Is Spirit forgiving when it comes to “skeletons” (61 checkride busts, DUIs etc).
Will being honest and showing a strong desire to work/stay at Spirit increas ones chances?

They used to be not forgiving at all, then quite forgiving, now a little less forgiving. Like any airline, it all depends on what the applicant pool as a whole looks like at the moment. Right now our applicant pool is quite healthy so you may have a harder time getting a call. That's conjecture, though; reality is only knowable after you submit an app. The worst that can happen is that they turn you down. But yes, being honest and communicating that you desire a long term career here will make your chances better.

Good to know. I was able to score an interview ( very thankful for) and hopefully they’ll allow me to explain my stupid youth mistakes. I’ve done union and other volunteer work, worked in the training department etc.

I don’t want to start a new thread, although maybe I should. Anyway, I have heard some gripes about the training. Can anyone elaborate? I saw one post that said it’s a short sim footprint. Does anyone else have anything else to add/comment on? I’m thinking about applying with NK.

There's probably a few training threads in this subforum, but if you didn't know the info going into training, you're not going to know it leaving training.

You need to know your flows, memory items and limitations before coming to training if possible. They start hammering you on flows day one of training. You don't get much time off after class, and there aren't a lot of off days in training. 6-on-1-off-6-on, etc. So if you start behind, you'll struggle to stay up to speed.

You only get 4 simulator sessions before your type ride. You do get I think 12 FTD sessions to get normal procedures down, but you don't begin to cover single engine procedures until day 2 or 3 of sim, by then you're only 1 or 2 sims away from your type ride.

Same goes for captain upgrade - if you didn't know it before training, you still won't know it afterwards.

A lot of the onus is on you to find and learn the material.
