Yes I know you can change same type of engines. I was talking about switching engine manufacturers. I was in DFW when all the NEOs were grounded and asked one of the MX guys there what it would entail swapping them to the LEAP and he said it wasn’t cost effective. Have to change all the wiring harnesses, change the engine pylons, change all the software, plus a bunch of airworthiness stuff. The planes come certified with that type of engine so it would entail getting them all certified again, not sure how in depth that would be.
People saying they flew old planes with different engines, while it does happen like the KC135 and some of the old DC-8s, those were engine kits that were made specifically for it and those kits required STCs and all the flight testing and BS that comes with getting those signed off. So no you can’t just take a CFM and swap it with an IAE unless there is a company out there that has been approved to do it and I don’t think there are any. It would be cheaper to just throw in a new section to the COM and AOM and train the pilots and mechanics on the new engines.

It’s not even so simple to swap an IAE engine with another IAE. It was either the dfw engine fail or Ord cowling unlatch event that grounded an old 319 several years ago.
Turned out the pylon was damaged and there were no pylons available from that era. Something about this older pylon was different.
I think they had to find a used one from the bone yard to get the airplane flying again.
Try swapping from lycoming to continental engines in a GA airplane and let me know how cost effective it is.

It's a software change and hang the new engine. If you want to do it you can it just takes $$$$. At another Major I worked for we actually flew what's called a mix at times. One engine can produce 15,000 lbs and the other 12,000 lbs do the EPR correct and you're good to go. TC knows we can find airframes so why make a major order.

Has anybody else seen the position opening on their ICIMS site disappear, or am I just lucky? My Dashboard now states I haven't submitted for any jobs, though that's not what it said when I looked at it earlier today. Did they close the position? Nothing pops up when I search Pilot or First Officer in the Job Listings search function. Just wondering if I'm seeing an anomoly.

for sure, the support people are great and very friendly. Good news we received an email I think it was Thursday from CP and he "Claims" we are hiring 56/month starting July and running that number the rest of the year. Hopefully that will empty the pool out for you that have been waiting. Also said meet the Chiefs will start back up too. *Disclaimer*: I'll believe it when I see it.
