So 50 hr lines...

So how many will be offered ya think and how senior will they go? How many will step away on unpaid leave?

RemoveB4flght 03-27-2020 08:34 AM

How did I know as soon as I read the email that someone would race over here to be the first to start a thread about it. They are nice options but not really worthy of a whole separate sub thread.

MCDUmanipulator 03-27-2020 08:53 AM

So should it go in the headset thread? Or the April 6 new hire class thread?

RemoveB4flght 03-27-2020 09:04 AM

With the gossipy nature of the questions you posed, either would be suitable.

ok I’ll play:

How many? We will see on the May bid
How senior? We will see on the May bid results
Unpaid leave? Historically not many whenever this is offered at any company.

Or....

How many guys here can actually live off 50 hours?

I imagine these lines will go more senior on the CA side than the FO side. They also might go more junior in bases with high cost of living like FLL. Who knows, I’m just bored.

since when is APC a place of factual information? This whole forum is 90% gossip.

FlyGuy2002 03-27-2020 09:45 AM

My guess is 300 per seat , company wide. Atleast for May.

MCDUmanipulator 03-27-2020 09:47 AM

With 75% reduced flying wouldn’t they probably want to offer around 50% to each seat? Cheaper to pay someone 50 hours then pay them 72 to just sit around not needed on reserve.

spirited 03-27-2020 09:57 AM

I would choose to tighten the belt and live on 50 - safe from Corona at home - while this passes.
Of course, I would only be giving up $57 * 22 hours = $1254/month :D (I am a new hire starting Apr 6)

Its the equivalent of making $65-70k a year for most FO’s. Or approach 1.5 times the national average income. Tighten the belt. Take advantage of mortgage holidays. Suspend payments to girlfriends in Peru. It’s a haircut but should be doable unless you’re just living at the edge of the paycheck.

True, but is it both base AND seat specific? The MOU states that the lines are awarded in seniority by position only. I honestly dont know if position includes your domicile.

I'd do it if I were off first year pay.

First year pay is understandable.

Rocinante 03-27-2020 11:00 AM

If anything, wouldn't it make more sense to take 50 hours at 1st year pay and then do more hours at the higher rate? Assuming you're not paycheck to paycheck.

From a larger perspective, I see this coinciding with the legislation in Congress. If Spirit takes that grant money and only has to pay 50 hours to a significant chunk of pilots, they've sort of won on both accounts.

How so? The amount distributed will be based on Q2-3 of 2019. So there will be money left over if a bunch of guys end up taking the VIL ( and there a ton of lines). But that grant money can only be used for payroll. Spirit doesn’t get to pocket it. They could perhaps stretch those dollars longer using 50 hour lines as I’m not sure the money has to be used up by a certain date.

Thats my thinking.

Dunno about you guys but the timing is perfect. Grow a beard, Enjoy the summer, drink some beer and help keep all our ALPA brother & Sisters on property

This is kinda the way I look at it. Safe at home! Not to mention kids are home from school. Lots of quality family time while getting paid roughly 15 hours less than I normally fly (i'm a quality of life person that drops a lot) without leaving the house! Get a lot of projects done around the house! Get to enjoy my short 3-4 month mid-west summer.....seems almost like a no-brainer!! Only thing that would suck is missing out on the summer gravy!

FLYBOYMATTHEW 03-27-2020 12:37 PM

You think there will be summer gravy if we are suddenly and drastically overstaffed?

Yep! I’m sure they’ll be some sort of melt down unfortunately.. has been every summer the past 8 years.

You will be on training pay for 2-3 months.

SaintNick 03-27-2020 01:14 PM

At b6 it went super senior on captain side.
But ours were also no fly lines.

So are ours.........

Arliss 03-27-2020 02:50 PM

I'm in the same boat as some others, I could do it if i wasn't on first year pay.

Tranquility 03-27-2020 03:13 PM

50 hours.... (more than $131.35 @ 72 hours), grow a beard and get back into day trading while wearing nothing but my boxers...... 🤔
Where do I sign up? :D

MCDUmanipulator 03-27-2020 03:13 PM

1,000 VIL lines. 500 for each seat. Spread mostly even between the bases.

guessing? Or you know?

Id bet there are more than they can fill if we are reducing 75% in May. June and July who knows.

If we can’t fill them all? Furloughs?

Leaked on the chat boards... It seems to be roughly proportional by base....

Same if I can hold it, hopefully they will send something out soon with the numbers per base, since I’m not on WhatsApp or where ever it’s coming from.

don’t think they will have any problem filling them. Everyone I know is excited about them and hoping they’re senior enough to get one. This also points to spirit taking the grant money which means no furloughs until October.

Qotsaautopilot 03-27-2020 07:56 PM

I’d love to know what the stipulations and amounts of the grants and loans are

It will be interesting to see. I'm guessing this will go senior at most bases except for FLL. It's too expensive and most have too many toys or too much house to do much less than 72 hours, even on the CA side.

many can’t even live on 72 sadly.
