I’m extremely proud.

I love the people. The culture. All of it.

it’s all relative..... no more “when you gonna stop flying that RJ?”

Give it about another 10 years....

Rinse and repeat.

Ironically, we were just returning from a strike about 10 years ago.

I deleted my DL/UA apps after a month of flying here. Amazing crews, amazing schedule flexibility, less boomer military hero complex captains, getting to live in base. Couldn’t be happier:D.
Would much rather be here than schlepping it to LGA/ATL on a day I couldn’t manage to bid off, to fly with captain miserable all week.

plus, no hat! ;)

Good to see those positive posts about enjoying the job. I was hired into the pool in March, and still hoping for a class date, but it’s reassuring to see happy people at a job.
Ive worked for too many companies where the pilots were miserable.

we’ve obviously had/have our issues but the job here (and crews, Training dept, M/X, CPs) are all great.

I came here late last year from Xjet, and feel like I may be dodging a bullet. If I was still there I'd be looking at a downgrade and likely furlough or possibly a shutdown. Overall my Spirit experience has been great.

Because it's time stamped at 5:25am, I'd assume this was typed on a phone while dropping deuce before showering for a 6am van? But if you're still waiting on IOE, perhaps after a late night at the bar?

Or else hire a proofreader to come in here quick, cuz... damn.

interesting article about Spirit’s forecast capacity in MCO, seems optimistic

bruhaha 06-16-2020 05:19 AM

5 of the six flights I operated on the last trip had less than 10 seats open. Everyone was packed in there even the middle seat.

even the no mask wearers gladly plunked down (handed over the credit card) the $3 to buy a mask from the flight attendants when they were told they couldn’t board without a mask.

I have no idea how much people were paying for their fare, but we were carrying the normal bag loads it seemed for the number of passengers we were carrying and bag fees aren’t discounted afaik. And from what our FAs report, people are buying snacks and drinks... because people don’t have to wear the masks while eating or drinking... So the more bags, snacks, and masks we sell it helps our ancillary income, which is where we make our money.

people seemed grateful we were flying from what I could tell.

Halon1211 06-17-2020 07:16 AM

I wouldn’t be doing backflips and celebrating just yet, we are not out of the woods. ’Rona is back on the rise. Texas just had its most reported cases of it by about double. A lot of other states too.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

We could end up right back where we were, with even more austere measures.

as exciting as this is, we are still only at 10-15% capacity

edit for the post below: ‘we’ meaning spirit, considering we are doing less than 150 flights a day right now whereas we had planned 780

BeechedJet 06-17-2020 08:44 AM

Who is we? Spirit or the airlines in general?

BeechedJet 06-17-2020 11:06 AM

Also in the MEC email, they mention a June high of 291 flights a day. Still sucks but that’s a lot more than 10-15%.

Well, 37%, and they used the vague "a high of 290", not "average of". Who knows what every other day besides that high is.

likely because June 1st has way fewer flights than June 30th. And the average would not paint the correct picture.

Nor does the high.

CAirBear 06-17-2020 04:06 PM

Forget June. The big picture here is we are flying 80% / 550 flts a day in July. I would assume it will be the same if not more for August.

If I recall correctly, we start to taper in August and more so in September. I personally think that July will be our peak numbers (which is still below what they originally wanted).... We will spool down, always have.

Except that it’s not remotely a normal travel season where people have been vacationing all summer and school’s guaranteed to fire up in the fall.

So you anticipate our demand to spool up in the fall???

With NY about to quarantine any traveler from Florida for 14 days - this isn’t over by a long shot.

Sutherja 06-18-2020 04:05 PM

Cockpit Jumpseat

Are you guys letting people in the cockpit jumpseat right now?

Yeah, same question. Looks like the family's booked flight is getting full. How do ya'll feel about jumpseaters?

Qotsaautopilot 06-18-2020 04:30 PM

I’d take one if it was ok with the other guy and you kept your mask on for the duration

Relative to a 550 flight a day July, and with Vegas etc opening back up? Yes.

Ed Force One 06-18-2020 06:03 PM

Still not sure what I'm going to do when I come off my VIL next month. I'm a mask wearin' COVID fearin' guy but don't know if it's desirable to wear a mask on a 5 hour transcon.

If the FO and I can have conversations without turning and facing each other (I know I sometimes spit when I talk, we all do) then perhaps not, but we've all been on the receiving end of what I'll call "Jumpseat Breath" and know how easy it would be to pick something up from someone positioned behind us.

sorry I haven’t flown in many moons...actually haven’t flown during this whole ‘Rona drama. Are we supposed to leave our masks on in flight?? I though when we were in the cockpit we could take them off.

Also, are there some airlines not allowing Jumpseaters to ride up front? Just been so out of the loop and busy trying to come up with the next big rumor. 😈

No, no one is wearing masks during flight, and jumpseaters are welcome.

bruhaha 06-19-2020 05:33 AM

If you haven’t flown in a while some possible hazards you might encounter if you get called In to work at least until the end of June:

the captain is usually a reserve pilot called in to cover the open trip and hasn’t flown in a while.

The FOs are usually new hires fresh off IOE because they are on a buildup line and can pick up open time. The more senior FOs who also haven’t flown in a while are on reserve and can’t pick up any trips.

some FAs have been flying a lot, most are coming back to work for the first time in a while as scheduling is calling in reserve FAs.

planes are definitely more crowded now than they were in April May

some of the planes have random Mx issues if they haven’t flown in a while as they come back from being parked.

Man I haven't flown in so long, I'll be doing good just finding the runway with both engines running

MCDUmanipulator 06-19-2020 08:46 PM

Haven’t touched a plane since first week of April.

ShyGuy 06-20-2020 11:30 PM

Thanks guys!

Different airline, same plane, I just went in last weekend for 3 bounces in the sim. With the vacation and incentive leave, I'm off until Aug 10th. Taking Spirit to see family. 35 hrs til departure and shows 14 seats open. I was able to whatsapp a Spirit agent and got them to change my family seats from A, C, D, to A, B, C. When I first booked they weren't allowing to pick the middle seat.

With 14 seats open I assume they'll all be middle seats. Is Spirit been good about clearing nonrevs into middle seats? I heard some horror stories on Delta where nonrevs were getting left behind with 20 seats because they were middle.
