This hasn’t been my experience at all. I’ve consistently gotten 4 or more days that I wasn’t called in on a RAP, that’s been every month I’ve been here starting in February. One month I had 6 days off extra. Add in double dead head trips that happen often on reserve and I get more days at home. Also, I’ve broken guarantee each month, some by a good margin.

How long would reserve be in one of the junior bases like FLL or MCO? Looking through the bid packets and awards, it would seem like you could be a lineholder in as little as two months.

I've seen comments saying that our FOs are on reserve for years

If you prefer shorter trips, I think someone has mentioned that you can bid reserve blocks of 4 days instead of reserve blocks of 6 days… did I understand that correctly? Is it possible to basically have 4 ON, 3 OFF, 4 ON, 3 OFF kind of schedule while on reserve?

Yes you can always waive the 4 day guarantee off.

Junior line holder in MCO is a summer 2021 hire.

Right now realistically FLL is about 6-7 months until you can get a line, MCO is a bit longer somewhere near 9-10 months

FLL reserves are some of the busiest in the system as they have to cover two airports (technically three with the close proximity of MCO) and the company has plentiful options for DHDing crews into position all throughout the system. Couple with that our FO attrition problem and you'll probably get used every single working day.

To answer your other question, yes you can bid blocks of 4 reserve days and you'll have 2-3 days off between them.

I thought LAS was fairly junior. Is that not true? What’s the reserve time for it?

It’s junior only in theory. We get a lot of training assignments but once done with OE they start bailing out. It seems to be getting better, slightly, but you are still looking at a year to hold a line.
