Why does Spirit continually set up pilot bases in other airline hubs?

Real question.
I think I know the answer but don’t want to taint the replies.

Yes let’s stop wasting our time with the big cities and get that LBE base going.

Weird question, but I'll give it a shot: because other airlines have hubs in large population centers and those airlines don't have exclusive rights to have crew domiciles there?

Ok, you got me, I worded it poorly.

Just wondering out loud how the business plan is going so far to take on the legacies at their hubs.

I’m not saying go full Allegiant. I’m saying there are other large airports that aren’t anyone’s centers of operation yet that could be chosen to dominate vs going head to head in DFW, ORD, DTW and the like.

Just pontificating. Seems to be an attack the hubs strategy.

Recruiting tool? No relocation necessary for when the new hire pilots leave Spirit for a legacy in that base?

If we only have 5% of the flights in a big metro we can afford to pick off more low fruit. If we go into a small market we pretty much have to own all of it to make it worth while. Large metros have lots of price conscious people that even with a small share we can fill up planes. How many planes can we fill in smaller cities at a good margin is what I’m sure they ask themselves in the network planning meetings.

IAH, ATL, and Ewr/Lga would make the most sense with our route structure.
