$500 fine for everyone who takes a bag. Make it part of the safety demo.

Why? So they can ignore that too?

Those fines for smoking in the lav aren’t overly effective imoho. This wouldn’t be either.

Anything added to the safety brief would be a liability mitigation aid for the company only. Which seems to be about the only thing C suites consider these days.

So far, to my knowledge, no one has died because of bag-getters. Eventually this will change.

Maybe then the rules will change as well.

I stand corrected. I had not heard of this accident, even though it was very recent.

My point, I believe, is still valid. I think more can be done to let people know. Will it help? Probably not. At least not the first time. I imagine it going something like this:
There's an accident. Despite my newly suggested updates, people still waste time grabbing their bags and people behind them die. Criminal charges are filed, those shown on video (there will be tons of video) with bags are fined heavily and possibly stand trial for involuntary manslaughter or something of the like. (I'm not a lawyer.) They eventually skate, but maybe after that people will begin to take it seriously.

Yeah, I'm pretty pessimistic when it comes to human behavior any more.

That lack of common sense in a panicked crowd behavior is why doors are required to swing outward in large assembly areas. People push and jam up against the doors, trapping everyone in a fire. You do not have that in a small conference room or an office.

Agreed. The herd mentality is a dangerous one but sadly, something that seems to be part of our DNA when the **** hits the fan, with the exception being those trained for how to deal with it.

F9'er here; Great job by the crew. The subject of locking overheads has been discussed ad nauseam over on PPRune. There's a good thread over there about this incident too..
I think the NTSB will be taking a long look at the Fan Blade failure and certification; the cabin videos make for some great recurrent training.
Nicely done y'all..
