^^^^ this! Abysmal participation! Heck, couldn’t even get guys to do something simple like wear the same lanyard.

But rest assured, I did participate in a picket, and checkerboarded a RSV day to do so, despite my opinion that airport pickets are futile. It was about showing up and supporting those who do the tireless work on our behalf.

Bingo! Pilots love to show solidarity when there is free pizza and beer, yet not so much when asked for an hour to walk in a circle at the airport/HQ

It’s either a part of your paycheck that you’d never see anyway if the union foots the bill, or an insignificant portion of any pilot’s income if a group decides to organize a spread for the pickets. I don’t even know what a large pizza costs these days, but I’d drop $20-50 on a picket if it meant we had significant turnout. I bet others would too. Or it wouldn’t cost ALPA any more than some of their meals they’re buying for get togethers in FLL. Show up, march around for a bit, get some grub and donate any significant leftovers to a shelter or haul it down to the training hotel for guys on training pay.

It’s true. ALPA national usually writes a million dollar check to fund the SPSC at the start of Section 6 for these pizza parties and sweet lanyards. If anyone is paying for (our) these pizza parties, it’s more likely Delta, UAL, FedEx and other large airlines that help fund the ALPA coffers. It’s why every few years these larger airlines start a discussion to go independent, tired of doing the bulk of the national funding

It’s funny people always complain about first year pay yet three years ago people were saying we don’t negotiate for pilots not on property it’s the company’s problem. Me I like to be flying with the best money can buy not legacy leftovers. First year was a joke then and a joke now.
