Eminent? Do you mean imminent? Let me guess…text to type? Wait no….autocorrect got you?

Most likely, at the time, they were thinking what they could get, by going to Chapter 7, was more than F9 was offering. These people don't really care about the interest of the employees. It's business to them. Only we would think about saving jobs. We are always the ones that will be served up on the plate.
Very succinct and correct. CH7 is a far better option than giving up control and converting your secured debt to no control and unsecured debt.

Article from AP news updated today. Those of us here who went thru the "lost decade of the 90's" feel for you folks.
Spirit stock down 40% today and all the other airlines are up 8%+. The market is predicting that Spirit is not going to be a competitor anymore. I wonder if the news will cause people with current tickets to cancel or book aways? Ticket holders aren't secured creditors in CH7, so they won't get refunds on tickets they have purchased.

Please nobody even think about anything along those lines. Unlike the early 90's it would probably get charged as terrorism, not vandalism.

Beyond the elimination of competition, it's hard to see how these two failing businesses, combined, with all the money spent to reconfigured hundreds of Spirit planes and rebrand its assets, could have done much better. Maybe the demise of the Spirit business would have been slowed down, at best.
AW and US Air were hanging on by a thread post 9/11, and just prior to the 2008 recession the combined entity was the most profitable network carrier in the US. SWA beat everyone by a mile due to their fuel hedges.

In general, the bigger the entity, the more money they can conjure up during bad times. The whole, if you owe the bank $5k it's your problem, if you owe the bank $5b it's the bank's problem sort of thing.

1Q was Jan-Mar, 2Q was Apr-Jun. This recent release was for 2Q.

1000% it will. When the company states they have “substantial doubt” about staying in business, who is booking their family vacation on that?

Also, Ted got over $4m to walk away and lifetime flight benefits on the airline too.
You’ve got to be kidding.

Never been through a potential Chapter 7 like this, but how does that go as far as flights? Say they announce it on January 1 do all flights after that just get canceled?
