I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I'm just saying it literally is socialism. The government owning businesses is socialism, it's the actual definition. I'm not opposed to it, I think we've thrown aid money to companies for nothing in return for way too long, but you have to understand what socialism is if you're going to confidently claim it's not socialism.

At this point, it's pure speculation. If the government gets a board seat, or seats, you're absolutely right. If it's a collateral backed assistance, with no seats on the board, it's far from the definition of socialism.

90% equity stake in what? I seriously don’t understand what NK has that’s worth $500M.

Kinda makes sense. An airline surviving on gub’ment handouts flying pax that live off of the same hand outs. Maybe make a series of specialty airplanes. Welfare One. EBT Express. Section 8 Clipper. You get the picture…

Isn't this out of the Trump playbook over the years. He will float an idea that he has a solution to solve a problem: aka 500million. He doesn't have the ability or truly the desire to accomplish whatever it is that he has touted. But it drives the narrative while whatever he is set to fix dies on the vine. Trump phone, trump sneakers, Healthcare plan way too many other Trump plans that have never come fruition. I suspect that there will be a lot of pushback within the party as the mid terms are looking like a huge hurdle. The requiring a government bailout because of issues created by policies of the administration will just be political ads agains the party in the fall. Unfortunately, spirit is a pawn in this political theater.

Maybe you guys should look into airlines that have had government bailouts. Were you saying this when American took $12 billion?

If the government has a vested interest in Airline A, but not in Airlines B and C, which one do you think is going to have a (possibly illegal) competitive advantage?

Every airline without a sugar daddy would be subjected to government sandbagging.

Every airline employee that doesn’t work at spirit ought to be vehemently opposed to this harebrained idea. Especially those at Spirit’s direct competitors.

Also, turning Spirit into the next Amtrak or Postal Service is not going to be good for its employees.

Ted Cruz and Elizabeth Warren agree it’s a bad idea. That’s remarkable.

American Airlines and US Airways: “In November 2013, the DOJ and the airlines reached a settlement before any trial occurred.”

US Airways and America West: “The U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division conducted a review of the proposed US Airways–America West combination. The DOJ closed its investigation in June 2005 without filing any antitrust lawsuit or seeking to block the deal.”

Now that you’ve gotten your mergers and bailouts you can pretend the airline industry is rugged capitalism.

It would require the company to wipe out its shareholders and lose control of the company. This is not a scenario that any management group would pursue willingly to gain advantage. Hopefully it buys time for a sale and the government can sell its equity stake (if it happens at all)
