Now the Rumors should FLY HIGH, FAST and PLENTY...

BoredwLife 02-25-2009 11:35 AM

I would hope for those of you higher on the list. But with the closing of LGA and SJU I have a feeling that we're fat enough of reserves to handle the 6 needed crews. Good luck to those of you on the top.

yawdamp 02-25-2009 12:30 PM

Heard we won the 4/5 day off arbitration. Anyone confirm?

That has been my feeling since the closing, let's hope to be wrong...

Not to rain on the parade, but, I heard a rumor that the 4 day off ruling might, in fact be a rumor! Has anyone gotten anything official? I just checked the union web site; NADA. no emails either. could it be a joke?

Yes. Was sitting next to my captain today when he called the union rep. We should see something in writing soon.

Nice job Art Luby!

It'll be interesting to know when will this take effect, my guess is for APR flying. Since MAR lines are done.

Never the less, good news are always welcome.

True.. but they would need to get the ball rolling on a vacancy bid, mail letters, etc. Hopefully this, combined with increased frequency, will net some furloughees back.

The bittersweet of a recall would be that there's likely not much hope, outside of serious attrition, of anyone else coming back without fleet expansion. Even then, 1-2 planes could be absorbed without much difficulty, seeing as they are operating without spares.

I still haven't allowed myself to get excited

12 pilots to be recalled...

Cayman Islands - Cay Compass News Online - Spirit exits Cayman

Spirit Exits Cayman

Spirit Airlines is not resuming service between Fort Lauderdale and Grand Cayman this March, citing the US recession and decline in travel to the Caribbean.

Last August the low cost US carrier suspended its service to the Cayman Islands for six months because of increased fuel prices and lower load factors than other Caribbean markets.

It was to resume service from this March with two flights a week.

However, in an email to the Caymanian Compass, Misty Pinson from Spirit’s Corporate Communications office for North America said: “Due to the US recession and subsequent decline in demand for leisure travel to the Caribbean, Spirit has made the decision not to resume service to Grand Cayman at this time.”

Spirit Airlines launched daily service between Fort Lauderdale and Grand Cayman in February 2006 but scaled down service seasonally and had offered only two flights a week by August last year when service was suspended.

At that time, Ms Pinson said load factors to Grand Cayman were lower than in comparable Caribbean markets Spirit served and she noted that Spirit’s peak season to the Cayman Islands is actually in summer.

When asked if they were considering terminating Grand Cayman service altogether, she said, “We constantly review the results of all markets we serve.”

At that time Minister for Tourism Charles Clifford said his Ministry was disappointed that service was being suspended but they were not surprised that Spirit would have had difficulty with their load factor on the route due to the proximity of Miami International Airport which is approximately 10 minutes flying time from Ft Lauderdale.

You have my word that Spirit LOST the arbitration.

I spoke directly to a Spirit VP and confirmed that basic fact. He did not disclose any details other than to say that it was a lengthy ruling.

I wish that I had details and could define "LOST" for the arbitration ruling. I can't, but I am willing to say that the PILOTS WON.

Thanks to ALPA and the ALPA lawyers who ran the case.

The Reps can't put out anything until the entire ruling is read and digested. I hear that it was a lengthy paper. The Official ALPA info will have to wait until ALPA Representation gives the full meaning to the MEC.

Patience everyone.

BoredwLife 02-27-2009 12:53 PM

Grand Cayman was always a soft market for Spirit. I read this the other day. Since this wasn't current flying I don't think it accounts for that much flying. The increase in flying for the summer is still quite large. BUt it will see how interesting this gets with them currently flying with 0 spare aircraft.

What does Spirit not operating two flights a week to the Caymans have to do with 12 pilots being recalled due to the 5 day off ruling?

Im not siding with anyone here so dont get excited, I will believe it when I see the vacancy bid.

Sailor 02-27-2009 01:21 PM

So...do we have increase flying this Spring-Summer or not. Can we cover it with current A/C-Crews or not, and does anyone have a current Sen. List.(Current as of mid Feb-09).

emj55 02-27-2009 01:53 PM

Per the contract, a new updated list ws to come out in Jan. But as usual it didn't. Another violation of the contract.

As for me posting about Cayman and it's relation to call backs. Everyone keeps saying we might call back based on increased flying. Unless we get new planes, we can't increase the block hours. We are adding new destinations and taking others away. First Coumbia, SC then Cayman.

Plus we have way too many *****s. Almost 200 hours of Junior manning through Feb. 18th. That doesnt even include all the OT being picked up. The pilot group is helping an understaffed airline stay understaffed.

Until it's official and letters are in the mail, I refuse to believe anymore rumors of recall's or new planes .

Sailor 02-27-2009 02:11 PM

Nice and Clear. God bless those who deserved their well earn OT..but somebody said once "Greed is Good", ohh.. I remember, it was an Aahole.

Sailor 03-03-2009 04:46 AM

I guess the talk is 12 around 01MAY...Lets hope for more.

bubi352 03-03-2009 05:57 AM

If this holds true, how in the world do they do it? I was expecting a lot more recall "winning" this arbitration. At this rate see you in 2012.

taylorjets 03-03-2009 07:23 AM

Taken from a UPS thread when managment announced possible furloughs:

Should the furlough goes through (whatever the number may be), if the company uses management pilots to cover the excess flying due to open time and JA ban and for the IPAers who ignore the ban, they will all fall under the scabs category as far as I'm concern. We did at one time considered integrating the management pilots into the ranks, but if they are to cover even one trip with people on the streets, there will be no more talk or consideration of integration.

Sailor 03-03-2009 07:45 AM

Agree, but do we have that many Mgmnt pilot to cover flying?, other than their currency, line check, etc?

Well, yes, we do...they are on the seniority list, but considered managment. I was really refering to the reference of IPA pilots... in our case fellow ALPA pilots picking up open time. They hold a hard line there, and we should too!

This is a GREAT idea, but not for Spirit at the current time. In the current situation where we could possibly be getting close to a strike, labeling 1/6th of the pilot group as scabs prior to a stike means that many will cross the line. What would they have to lose in that situation? Now if we get a contract or if a current contract was not amendable this should be implemented instantly. I believe that you would see an additional 25 recalls right away.

dudeskibro 03-03-2009 11:36 AM

This just in:
Some chatter on Spiritboard saying 15 recalls went out today for a class starting next week!

Sailor 03-03-2009 12:29 PM

Man, we are all ...

How is it even possible for a class next week?

2Co2Fur1EXwife 03-03-2009 02:00 PM

Its confirmed 12, not 15.

Well, I am very close to the top besides the 17 that deferred previously and haven't heard a thing yet.

Sailor 03-03-2009 04:34 PM

They are calling 12, around PM, I called Miramar, and I was told at that time they had called 10ppl, 9 yes, 1 no...In the Top 20, there is 2 or 3 that will not be coming back. I am in the top 25. Now by PM no calls, I can assumed they found the 12 they were looking for.

I was told this call is due to the 4-5 day off arbitration. Class on 01APR09 Work on 01MAY09.

Unofficially, that's all I know.

taylorjets 03-03-2009 10:23 PM

So it is 12 ? Dont I have a bet with someone on here?

FLYBOYMATTHEW 03-04-2009 12:33 PM

Has anyone received OFFICIAL recall letters yet? From what I understand, the calls that the company put out were "unofficial" feelers to find out who was planning on coming back and who was planning on bypassing.

Sailor 03-04-2009 01:34 PM

That's my understanding, I guess w/in the next few days FedEx will be knocking some doors.

yawdamp 03-05-2009 05:49 AM

Bumped into CP:
12 recalls will be FLL base, credit cards holding 100% cash until Pax fly (used to be 50%), 20 additional airplanes 2011, if able (your speculation here) will try for 2010. $120 barrel or greater = no profit. Company making money now. Still looking south for expansion. Bases - Looking to expand DTW, ACY may have been overkill (too many pilots).

Sailor 03-05-2009 07:01 AM

So then, no much for a second recall this yr.

2Co2Fur1EXwife 03-05-2009 07:22 AM

Boy ,I sure am glad I have ALPA on my side informing me of recalls and keeping me up to date with current developments! Can I go to the party in Miami? I'm paying for it anyhow.
