38 canceled flights from yesterday (31) and into today (7).

Figure over 6,000 passengers stranded on spring break.

Totally controllable, staffing issues. Too bad passengers are getting the bad end of the deal regarding poor staffing.

You see this Bob, Bendo, Jyri? Of course you do...this is what you get.

Company will just blame the weather.

Was in ORD the other day and they cancelled an MSP flight because of weather. Yeah it was VFR in ORD and MSP, the crew called in fatigue and they didn't have anyone come to save the day.

They can blame weather or whatever to investors and the public...but everyone knows the cause is lack of pilots.

Bobby F is riding the wave of increased customer satisfaction on Spirit (oxymoron?), will he be willing to watch that crash this summer and into the holiday season because of a lack of a new contract?

Facts are facts...

Losing close to 50% pilots so far this year (new hires vs current pilots leaving)
New routes being added
Seasonal summer flying coming back
9 more planes coming this year
Summer increase in block hours.

Company is already failing the Spring Break stress test, doesnt take a genius to figure how summer will go.

I'm not sure 50% is a fact.

22 have left, 1 retired.

What are you trying to say?

Well, guess ill break it down....

As of March 1st we have lost 23 pilots and 1 retired. Total 24 pilots gone in the first 2 months of the year. Source: Latest MEC communication on the attrition report.

Delta: 8
UPS: 5
FedEx: 3
Southwest: 5
AA: 1
United: 1
Retired: 1

We are still running classes of aprox 24 a month.

So even if every pilot passed training in January and February, thats 48 new FOs hitting the line. We lost 25 pilots off the list.

So even IF 48 passed training (which they didn't) attrition is 24 left/48 new=50% attrition

The last two Base Vacancy Bulletin showed 32 NH for Feb. and 40 NH for Mar.

What were the actual NH numbers for Feb/Mar?

Unless every single pilot gets called on their day off to work OT, then there is not a shortage. Flights are getting cancelled without calls being made.

It is interesting that CUG is still 12 a month.

I went back and checked vacancy bid 17-3 and 17-4

So the 2 vacancy bids for Jan and Feb classes show

32 new hires for January and 32 for February.

So that's 64 bodies in the door for 24 left. I didn't realize the upped the class numbers that much. My mistake on that one

So looks like 38% on the attrition If everyone passed training.

Maybe assume 60 made it through...that would be 40%

And 9 captains leaving doesn't help them out.

Yeah they have called me the past 3 nights in a row. I didn't pick up the phone because I was sleeping. I am willing to bet that those trips were open well before I went to bed, but scheduling is so overwhelmed when things go off track that they can't keep up. A lack of bodies and experience in crew scheduling will be the cause of the next meltdown. Of course they will blame it on the pilots when they file a lawsuit against alpa. Then they will tell the passengers it is "weather" when we cancel. I truly think we have a successful business model but I have very little faith in our management to execute it.

My new slogan
"If Bobs not sharing, I'm not caring."

I'm enjoying my days off with my family on spring break!
