Update, I’m about 1 for 10 on getting DH DEV approved. Great success for the contract. Also, the process is a train wreck, so if you pick up Open Time it’s pretty unlikely the request will be addressed before the trip starts. Travel department for the win.

Just curiosity from an outsider: about what percentage of trips start with deadheads, and how senior do you have to be to get them?

TIM1 has the bid package perspective, but in open time there end up being a decent amount, too. Once you have a regular or relief line, there’s good opportunity to open time trade with one that has DH or is more commutable depending on availability.

Ah, I potato-brained and missed the earlier post. Thank you for the responses! Do the commuter-friendly trips go senior, or does the higher proportion of people who live in base cause that to not be the case? Does reserve happen to be a little less junior for the same reason?

Could’ve used some more secure language. Locked into the garbage for 4 more years. Minimum.

Reserve consistently goes very junior. There are a handful of people who bid down but not many. Reserve still sucks pretty bad, so you need a good reason to bid down. No one that I know of is bidding down to reserve for the fun of it. As far as commuter friendly trips going senior, it's difficult to know because what we have now is lines rather than trips, so we haven't had the opportunity to see something like PBS in action. There are definitely some fairly senior commuters, but if I had to guess there will still be a decent number of commuter friendly trips that make it down to the masses.

So realistically by the time you get out of training you could hold a line. I hear that there's as much flying as you want there if you are willing to pick up extra time?
