Same reason they can't get people to upgrade, it's the pairings. Same reaction, blame the pilots for not growing.
the pairings are terrible if you’re Junior. Senior not so much. Definitely a seniority favored schedule with PBS now.

Can a new hire upgrade if they want? I seem to recall back in my time at Sunny, there was some rule about them needing a minimum amount of time with the company first.

No. You need to be on property for one year.

Does SC have the money or need/want to buy what’s left of Spirit? Have no idea what it might cost just looking at possible suiters and wondering if SC could be in the fold.

But why would they??? Operating them as NK means losing money. If there was money to be made growing what SC does, why not grow organically, as opposed to buying a new type, with maxed out pay pilots, a boat load of debt, and nothing worth any money, leading to all sorts of costs. Way easier to buy a few gently used 737s (that have working engines) every few months and hire new cheap, well trained pilots.

I didn’t ask if United might be interested.

Avelo would be a much more likely acquisition target than SpiritWings.

PBS was to be implemented by 12/31/22. It was implemented 10/01/25.
Opening a pilot domicile took a year plus arbitration.
….I’d be very surprised.

This guy knows his Sunny.

Except that base arbitration took seven years. They had to try a few times until they found an arbitrator who didn't understand what they were asking for.

Point is this place couldn't swallow Spirit and you are 100% right.
