can’t imagine having to wear an O2 mask nearly all day, but regs are regs.

51000 is the all engines service ceiling. Nothing that’s in the manuals is theoretical however, the conditions must be right. And anything over 43 ish may require a step climb.

cool.. I fly the CRJ which can reach FL410.. but I’ve only been there a handful of times, almost always repo flights.. how common is FL510? Seems that one I mentioned reached 495 but couldn’t quite coax it any higher lol.

I haven’t actually flown it yet, just got typed a while back. Ours spend most of their time between 36 and 45. The only time higher is attempted is to make the fuel work or to top weather. The law of diminishing returns sets in most of the time.

No X experience, but the Global is certified to FL510 and you have to be low on fuel and ISA - to get up there.
Ive seen 49,750ft before center made us come down. With a test platform aircraft with no interior, low on fuel and brand new engines....who knows what these aircraft can achieve.

Getting to FL510 is kind of weak when you know many test pilots before have made 100K plus.
I salute them.

How does the jet handle up there? Highest I’ve ever been was 53k in a gray jet and with the high wing loading it HATED it. If you cracked the wings even slightly, you’d pick up a four digit negative VSI.

Momentum conquers all!! Keep your speed up and it handles quite fine in smooth air.
