Default Garmin 430/400 Question

We just put Garmin 400s in our company 1900s. We upgraded them from a KLN 90. One thing I noticed is the 400 doesnt seem to have route memory like the 90 did. For example if you type in KGRR in the 90 once you get past inputing the "G" it will enter the rest. Does the G400 have the capability to do this? Is this something that can be changed in the setting somewhere? Just curious because it is especially nice for common intersections.

If memory serves, I do not believe that can be changed. However, if you are using the flight plan feature for your route and putting in departures/arrivals as well as the airway intersections, you can (from the map page) hit direct-to and then use the large (outer) knob to move the cursor to the FPL field, then using the small knob, you can select the waypoint from the list of waypoints stored in your flight plan. If you expect an off route waypoint then just pre-load it on the intersection page (WPT button) and then you can press direct-to and enter from there.

Here's a link to the manual: http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/2105_...dReference.pdf

You can downlaod a quick reference guide here: http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/1317_QuickReference.pdf

They also have a trainer program you can download if you are really bored.

The 400 is a great GPS. You'll enjoy the LPV approaches when an ILS goes down and no one else can get in with weather down to mins. Hopefully you got the GDL69 for xm weather too - it's worth it!!

The Garmin 530/430 series, which includes the 400, does not suppose to auto-enter waypoints. From what I understand, the auto-entries led to expectancy and keystroke errors. There is not a setting for this as of yet.

In the G1000s, a counter-clockwise click of the little knob in waypoint entry fields will bring up flight plan and nearest selections. Hit CLR to erase and retry the waypoint .
