There was a guy at simuflite that put the reversers out on a challenger. He said and i quote "look what i learned at simuflite." They were using the TR deployment in the sim to simulate something on the g2. The one thing he did right was put the gear down. They both lived.

I personally witnessed a TWA 717 land with a reverser deployed in flight and the crew handled it rather well. And those buckets are considerably larger than on any JT8D series .

"What prevents T/R deployment in flight?"

In many turbojet aircraft there are:

-air/ground sensing "PSEU" (weight on wheels + wheel speed sensors+ radar altimeter input)

- mechanical latches that prevent deployment while airborne
- positive hydraulic pressure on the Stow side while airborne

Most Seven Twos have a "reverser operating" light which is really a reverser unlocked light. If you can move the thrust lever the checklist say to continue on. If the thrust lever slammed back and won't move you shut it down. I've had the light come on at rotation but since the thrust lever still moved we keep going. When we landed we found the bucket about a third deployed.

The checklist for recovering from an intentional deployment goes through a few steps to try to stow the reverser and if it won't stow you shut it down.

Was it ACTUAL reverse thrust? Or simply deplyment of the system with the engines at idle like the Russian jets do in the flare?
