Keep giving me 15 days off and throw in 200 percent open time. That should help a little.

While I'm sure that is an option, we are currently staffed well enough to pick up other airlines' flying with plenty of people in the pipeline going through or awaiting IOE. In IAD alone, there were 34 hard lines, 3 buildups and 24 reserve lines. Last I heard, the first Feb class was just starting IOE and there were 75 pilots in the pipeline as of April 1st with most class sizes around 14(2 per month). So, if we didn't hire at all starting right now(assuming another class of 20 started already) we are staffed for another almost 10 airplanes. Add 20-30 captains in the training pipeline back to the list combined with still being a little fat on FOs and you might be able to squeeze out one or two more airplanes. That alone should get us through the summer.

CBreezy.. Thanks for the great info. I appreciate you taking the time to pass on really helpful info. I'm moving back to STL, so I'm going to start working at TSA soon after a long career in other sectors of flying.

Can anyone tell me how seniority is determined among classmates? If there are 20 in the class, how are they racked and stacked at the end? Grades, date of acceptance, age?

Thanks

I believe its the first two numbers of the last 4 of your social. For example, a guy whose last 4 numbers are 1234 is senior to the guy whose numbers are 1324. (12 vs 13)

I don't know that it is the first two of the last four of one's SSN but the last four does determine seniority within your class. That's how seniority was determined within my class in 2012.

Someone brought up the possibility of vacation cancellation in the near future. That was done in 2013 when seven additional 145s were brought on line. It seems logical the company would be willing to do the same thing again. I hope they don't decide they have too.

Thanks for the input.. Great info.. One last question.. I had heard there could be a short backup between ground training and IOE.. With the numbers of guys coming through.. Do you think there could be a delay in June-July time frame?

Out of the Feb 2nd class only 3/16 have started OE, and one of those that started was because he's military and it was a give me OE now, or it'll be awhile type thing. Last I heard there were still 4-5 guys that haven't started OE from the mid December class.

Thank you.. Having said that, and me not understanding the time it takes to get through ground school, how long have the Feb 2nd guys been waiting (when did they finish?).

My sim partner and I finished our checkride on April 2nd and have not even talked to the IOE scheduler.

"Having said that, and me not understanding the time it takes to get through ground school"

Here's a timeline: About 1 week for indoc (signing company doc's for payroll, uniforms, health care, & who's who in the zoo presentations), then 3+ weeks 121 rules and systems. So that's a month already. Then a few simulator trainers (a bunch of touch-screens hooked together in shape of a cockpit to practice button mashing). Then, some get a short wait to start sims (10 events, plus a couple of days off sprinkled in there). Then wait for IOE.

Start indoc to finish sim chk ride is 60 days - ymmv slightly.

And seniority is last 4 of SSN, all numbers inclusive.
