What the man says. A furlough for any reason, should trigger a rebid to allow senior people to bid the remaining positions. Been that way from Day 1. The fact that the company has to retrain is a function of agreeing to the terms of the agreement that they happily held the pilots feet to. For a union to turn a blind eye is bad...to agree to it in court? Gee, thanks. You just set a legal precedent that will get shoved down the throats of other pilot groups..."See Judge? ALPA AGREED TO IT already...so since the precedent is set...no big deal!"

Bruce York and Betty Ginsberg strike again. Two people who are happy to get $$ from pilots pockets while the pilots walk the street.

I will agree that if the senior JFK guys have the required security clearance, they should be allowed to bump into IAD. However, the guys without the clearance are out of luck.

And we wonder why we can't get any traction. Unity, solidarity, trade unionism mean nothing to you apparently. As long as you have yours, pull up the ladder.

There are a lot of us who have sacrificed for decades to try and preserve this profession. Clearly our efforts were wasted in your case. Guess we won't have to worry about seeing you on the picket line. You'll be elsewhere...

Is ALPA requiring that North American start the background checks for the senior pilots who have been furloughed?

If not, then it's just like if an aircraft type were leaving and that ALPA is allowing out of seniority furloughs.

Are you and ALPA willing to pay the $20 - $30K for the Security Clearances? Are you also willing to pay their minimum guarantee for the 3 to 12 months it takes for the Clearance to become active? If not, why not?

Totally apples to oranges. When you lose an aircraft type, your Company holds a class and requalifies people. That takes a month. To get a TS requires $30K and 3 to 12 months.

In the meantime, you ARE NOT QUALIFIED to fly the mission. Big difference.

Gee...and all these years, ALPA has told everyone that they are there to protect pilots rights and interests while holding management to the same language of a CBA that they so happily hold pilots to.

Who knew that ALPA was really there to protect management and their desires? Frank Lorenzo must be so happy, he finally got what he wanted. A union that turned it's back on it's responsibilities and sided with a bankruptcy judge over the very pilots they represent.

Or claim to.

I don't know how long you've been in this business, but you would do well to learn what others sacrificed to make YOUR job possible. Not that you will likely care, but it might save you from having to open your wallet, pull out your money and buy a round. Or maybe just keep you from looking like a total fool.
