Kirby's been talking the talk all the while not walking the walk. Where's the A/C order that will fuel this supposed expansion. 5, 10, 20 years down the road? He says one thing, (737-700's were cancelled due to being inefficient), yet wants used A/C that are equally inefficient, WTF?. Boeing was practically giving these to us yet we cancelled them? Very strange indeed. If you buy a plane you have it forever. If you lease a plane you have it for however many years you like. A used airplane usually comes back to the leasor with useful life and may not be fully depreciated. United steps in and says we'll use up the remaining 5-10 years on the frame. We get a good deal to bridge to the next generation of aircraft without having to be stuck depreciating last generations for 20 years. By mid 2020 the MAXs will have good performance numbers as will the NEOs and they will be cheaper. The CS300 (319/737-7) will have good performance numbers and the MOM will be entering service. That's the best time to be buying. However sitting and waiting and not growing is not an option either, the good news is I think we'll know in a couple months. MOAB in SEP!:D |

Very strange indeed. Apologize for the very jaded views but for me, the Emporer really never has any clothes on. Sucks to have seen the same circus act repeated ad nauseam but after 30 years or so but I guess it is what it is. I think everyone is waiting for the much publicized "fleet plan". I for one, do not expect an earth shattering revelation when and if the fleet plan is made public. I am cautiously optimistic concerning narrow body fleet plans, but who knows! |

This whole airplane order talk is just that.
Real life time table is this; order airplane, take delivery a minimum of one year from that day. Buy used airplane, take delivery, strip cabin, update cockpit, paint exterior, make sure it's registered in USA and then after close to six months first flight as UAL. Basically no new airplanes on property until 2019. BTW Tilton did same dance over orders during the reorg years. |
