Denver has been one of our most successful cities in the history of Southwest Airlines, if not the most according to Gary Kelly. I think we hit 217 flights a day this month, and we have 820 pilots based in Denver. We add about 20 pilots a month on the vacancy awards. Sounds like someone looked at SWA in DEN and said " gee, we can do that too". History has proven otherwise. Certainly an old United 757 can't do what a SWA 737 will produce in RASM's. We will have to learn it the hard way, just like the old days. |

That wasn't exactly Continental's best times financially. As far as United's performance in Denver, I find it hard to believe they'd keep the base open if it was a perpetual money loser. Someone posted the other day that the renegotiated lease prices for Denver has made the base a lot more profitable. I don't know how much that helped but I doubt we'd be returning the 756 to Denver if it were a money losing base. |

Yet here we are, expanding a hub based on "connecting traffic", where the SWA model has thrived. Good thing I get paid to fly these things and not decide where they fly- despite 40 years watching the business cycles and failed bright ideas. |

Just saw this little gem....Beginning December 20, service between Denver and Kona (KOA), Lihue (LIH) and Maui (OGG) will increase from seasonal to daily year-round service. The airline will continue its year-round daily service from Denver to Honolulu.
