Other than losing power for a day, we have been fortunate that the waters did not rise to our house.

Now, I have been told there is serious concern for the water and sanitation systems at IAH, which may take weeks to repair. In the mean while, the city may not allow commercial operations at IAH.

Stand by for TDY's and Force Majure declarations by United.

TDY is a voluntary bid, Force Majure isn't in the contract. What are you trying to say?

The devastation seems so vast that I wonder how much it will affect originating traffic.

I'm guessing that he/she is inferring that the ground staff won't be able to work? Let alone flight crews?

Can't give source for info about water systems...
However the official Airport page is reporting the airport is closed, indefinitely, with no expected date for opening.

They will not allow passenger traffic if the waste and water systems are not intact.

Sorry, you are correct. Force Majeure has been replace with the term, "Circumstance Beyond the Company's Controll", which exempts the company from compliance with some Regional ratios, furlough protections.

Delays, FAA airport advisories - Houston Airport (IAH)
If you read at the bottom of that page, you will see that is says it in NOT the official airport site.

This is : IAH Alerts | Houston Airport System

Wow. United even has mets from The Weather Company (WSI) onsite in the NOC. United pays a premium for these forecasts. Seems the free government sourced weather would work fine. WSI is horrible at forecasting turbulence too.
