Can someone tell me exactly what that means? I get these often. I have a vague idea but I'm guessing this has something to do with global solution..

Yup, the "solution" is the global solution. IE. You can hold a line with the constraints you put in the bid group, but if the system gives it to you, it will prevent it from building complete lines down to the G line. It's throwing you under the bus to be able to build the number of lines the company has required the system to build.

Ok, that's what I kind of thought. Thanks.

Hence why the whole G line needs to go away.

In essence, the solution is more important than your seniority. We've all been burned by it.

Yeah happened to me one month at 29% seniority. If PBS had made 2 less lines it could have given me my solution, but it wasn't to be. I filed a grievance and was told it is what it is and we can't do anything until next contract. Really a bogus part of PBS and company manipulation of line levels. I hope it gets fixed in the next go 'round, but then I suppose the company will find some other part of the system to exploit.

It's not just producing a legal line for each line-bidder at, or above, the g-line. That is one constraint that the solver must meet but there are others. The solver must also meet other requirements such as the amount of unassigned flying and daily reserve coverage.

With traditional line-bidding there are similar constraints but they are applied to the lines prior to the bidding process. In that process you don't get to ask for things that aren't already built into the lines. You have to hope that a line that you can hold already has what you want. With PBS you get to ask, and you can often get, attributes that would never have been built into hard lines without PBS.

The way to avoid this is to have more Bid Groups which systematically relax your constraints so that you can get as much of what you want as your seniority will allow.

Yep, did that for November. Built 11 bid groups, and was awarded number 10! Oh well, what do you expect bidding at 93% of the G-line...and holding any line is better than commuting to reserve!

Im 73% below the G-line and cant get a reserve line to save my life. Maybe someday i will be senior enough to not get a line.

Can’t stand this bidding system. It is astonishingly terrible.
