Sounds like a fatigue call to me...Followed by a positive space ticket back to your base.

There are those that don't have family that would rather work to make extra pay then those who would rather stay at home .

Easy solution

My two kids are now old enough (17 and 23) that Xmas morning is not as important as when they were much younger... so I personally bid trips leaving in the afternoon on Xmas day for the reason stated above (not extra pay... which would be nice).

I would also say that belly aching about pilots calling in sick is BS... I do agree that it does look suspect on the sheer numbers of SL... but you really don't know if it's being abused or guys/gals are really sick.

Bottom line, being on reserve has a price (fluid schedule). So when you get called to be used don't belly ache... just go fly the trip.

I have no issues using a little sick leave, if you got it use it. I get confused seeing all the mil leave during thanksgiving and Christmas. 20 plus years active duty and I never had to work on Christmas or did I witness anyone working over Christmas unless Deployed. But then again I retired 3 years ago so things might be different now.

Their commanders have to certify the Mil Leave... so they are "on duty" and not really much UAL management can say about it... i'm sure lots of alert missions and command center positions that need manning even over the holidays.

I'm sure that's the case for some, but not all. But hey, if you can get Christmas off for your family then no hate coming from me. Do it.

This is not the normal amount of sick calls.

It’s obvious what is going on. I feel comfortable calling guys out on this.

To curb this we should require doctor’s notes for sick call in the next contract.

Why would you endorse this? How about everyone minds their own business? Sick time belongs to each of us. It’s a contractual benefit. It has an economic value.

Galaxy5....have you ever read our contract or are you a troll stirring up dumb stuff?

Pretty sure that was sarcasm.

We truly are our own worst enemies. We demand the autonomy to self-certify, but then get butthurt when any one us does.
