I have an offer from Southwest and I’m waiting to hear back from United. I know it’s a long wait for a class date if United does call back. I was leaning toward keeping SWA for Now and leave when/if I get a United class date, but reading these threads I’m still not sure what would be the best fit for me since I’ll be commuting with either choice.

If you go to SWA with the intent of accepting a UAL class date if you should get one, keep those cards very close to your chest. I’ve heard multiple stories (including a close friend of mine) who gave 2+ weeks notice of their intent to leave for DAL and other carriers and being fired on the spot. Good friend of mine went in to let the CP know with a months notice at the start of the trip, with every intent of flying his remaining schedule. They took his badge, iPad and all other company property right there and escorted him off the property.

You could likely be a 787 or 777 FO in 2 years making $200+ an hour. Or fly the 737 your entire career if that’s what you’re into. Either way They are both good jobs.

That's not entirely true. Realistically its probably 3 or 4 years to WB FO, on reserve as well, and you wont see $200/hr until yr 4 pay. Would be great if we can get some WB movement on these upcoming vacancy bids though! It's been stagnant.

Take SWA now and see what happens with UAL down the road if it even happens. Just keep it to yourself while at SWA. JMO

Splitting hairs but 2019 yr 3 WB pay is $203.79, which is as far as the current scale goes. Deep into RSV but not a bad thing if it's a drive to work.

Agree on needing some WB movement!

Just a small slowdown due to the 747 retirement.

I could have gone to any other major airline besides UAL, and I would have been better off. Who can predict this industry. Things are better now, but...

SWA has never furloughed. Something to think about.

When were you hired?

And as far as SWA never furloughing, past performance does not guarantee future results.
