Me pick up extra time? Rarely. I posted my last 10 paychecks to make it easy for you to calculate my average monthly credit. 83.122 hrs. The line I was awarded for March was 87.5, exactly what I was paid. I don't have my Feb award (no longer in CCS) but I traded one higher credit trip for a lower credit trip; my awarded line was ~88 hrs. Beyond that, I don't remember other than I tend to decrease my line credit.
Over the last 10 months, I've dropped more hours than I've added so you are completely out to lunch.

And even if I were picking up a bunch of open time, I'd be well within the contract to do so. Just because you want to be a captain ASAP (I still shudder at the thought) does not mean that the rest of us need to drop to 50 hours to make that happen.

What you want to do is featherbed - that's a sure way to cripple an employer in today's business environment. It creates two problems. 1) it makes the company less profitable because the cost per labor hour rises (this is due to nonwage costs associated with each employee) and 2) your idea of low credit hours during good times actually increases furloughs during bad times. Ever wonder why Southwest hasn't needed to furlough? Because the credit hour hogs reduce their time during lean times. If United did the same thing, it would greatly reduce furloughs. But all you care about is being a captain; this entire discussion has nothing to do with company efficiency (translated into higher PS) and reduced furloughs during lean times - it's about your desire to sit in the left seat.

You don't like my opinions about the direction the next contract should take? Fine. At least try to discuss the matter in a respectful manner. ... never mind, your screenname indicates you're an academy grad. It's a waste of my time to have any further discussion with you because you're a typical intolerant and ill mannered product of a service academy.
Nice, I see what you did there. You took my argument, and basically said "I know you are but what am I...?"

So how is it exactly that I'm thinking more about me? Which argument are you referring to? I want better QOL for our pilots. We will never have the efficiency of SWA, unless we change our business model. It's been tried before, TED, CAL Light, Song, etc...

Thanks for the insults though. I'm sure everyone on here appreciates the comic relief and everyone who has graduated from one of the Service Academies appreciate the insult and the broad brush in which you paint those who have sacrificed to go there.

Your last few responses have had nothing to do with your desire for a more "lean" operation. No one even knows what you are arguing anymore.
Nobody is advocating for insane hiring like was done at United prior to 9/11. I don't think anyone in the industry believes United is overextending themselves with respect to hiring. Take a look at our competition compared to us. We are the only airline right now who is only hiring to replace retirements. If you take into account LTD, we are actually shrinking right now as a pilot group.

Show me any proof you have otherwise.

Good day.

A BES is getting closed and displacements come out tomorrow. We're getting "lean" though so it's all good. Won't be the last.

Makes sense. Will help staff the LAX 787 flying in the short term.
