Fairly senior guy, it’s the lack of frequency that kills you out of RSW.

Going home is when it hurts. Nothing like watching a regional new hire get a seat in the back while you go to a hotel and wait until the next day to play the game again. Also, being that you’re talking about EWR, any time they are having weather delays, your 50 seat rj to JAX will get canceled more often than not. Commuting stinks, but it beats the hell out of living in Jersey.
As a Jax commuter I completely agree with Itsajobs assessment.

Trying to convince the wife to move...

Highly considering the FL to EWR commute. Would be doing it until about year 10 for me when I would be 50%-ish in the company (based upon projected retirement only). What would you say the order of locations in FL would be in terms of easiest to hardest, (sounds like MCO is the easiest)?

10 years may put you at 50% pilot seniority… you’ll barely crack the seniority grip of the FAs. And there are 3x as many as them.

Fairly junior TPA commuter up to IAD/DCA. So far haven't missed a commute going up. Sometimes I'll have to fly into DCA and take the train/bus over to Dulles. The back end is nice when we're running the 2200 flight back down, its almost always half empty. When they move that flight up to 1800 from 2200 though sometimes I'll try to hop over to DCA to catch whoever is running the 2000 flight down. It sounds like a lot of back and forth but its easier getting from DCA to IAD than LGA to EWR and it costs a whole lot less.

That's great to hear. How often do you find yourself having to commute out of MCO if at all?

I've never done it, it's a pretty far drive from me so never considered it. Purely hearsay but I've heard it's tough.

I’ve been doing it a few months now. Spring break was obnoxious. Couldn’t get out of anywhere in central florida for one commute.

Big thunderstorm days up in JAX area tend to shut down the entire state. One of these days i’m going to get caught up in that.

Most* of the time i’ve had no issues. There’s a ton of commuters but also so many flights. Nearly 40 up to the NY area each day just out of my airport. Have to really research loads each time. Going blindly to the airport won’t work very well.

I know this sounds nuts, but CLE has one daily 737 flight to and from each of MCO, TPA, RSW. And outside of spring break my guess is there will almost always be seats. CLE is nowhere near as senior as it used to be (and yes, it is 737 only) but could be a nice little niche commute just because no one else would be doing it. Just a thought.
