Default Magical 1,000 TPIC

Anyone get a call around hitting 1000 TPIC? Just wondered how magical it truly is?

The magic of 1000 TPIC is in case of furlough. United has hired many FOs. Generally, having more PIC is better than none.

Like someone else said, it’s important, but not the only metric used in measuring someone’s worth anymore. Volunteering, leadership, etc. And obviously what your 1000pic is in, also matters. 121 pic or military pic will be worth more than 1000 hours in a C208.

I do know that the more turbine pic you have, the more likely you are to get noticed by a UAL chief pilot, if trying to score a meet and greet.

You do not need TPIC at United to be hired. Numerous new F/O's have less then 2500TT never been PIC.

Probably explains the extra training that’s been going on around TK these days.

I hit my magic 1000 TPIC about a year after I upgraded to Captain here at the U.

Perhaps. Perhaps, not.

When I went though a long course this fall I had chance to speak with an old friend that is now a manager that deals with new hires.

I’m sure it varies with classes, but at the time, the “problem children” he was dealing with were not low time pilots, but rather very high time RJ captains and retired mil specs.

YMMV.

Same story I got from recent PI that displaced my f/o for Hawaii flying.
