Really? And what about my argument do you not understand? What about my argument offends you? I've already clarified I'm not lumping in responsible drinkers. You're arguing semantics. Are you defending those who shows up to work intoxicated? If so, what other employees do you defend that don't adhere to policy and why?

As for the remark about OldMako, you are correct, he didn't say it. I'll eat crow on that. However his defensive post would "insinuate" otherwise.

Our employer disagrees with that premise. We have pilots here right now that have failed random screening, been fired, stripped of their certificates, gone through rehab, recertification and HIMS to return to our seniority list where they left it.

Nobody is in a hurry to see these folks return. But it's awesome that we have a mechanism by where they're able to.

Not every “graduate” is obligated to inform you of it. I know quite a few, and most are happier than ever and very grateful to have their jobs, families, lives.....

The poster who made reference to guys who are angry all the time probably isn’t flying with “graduates” of the program....they’re probably still finishing up the process. There’s a very distinct difference.

Didn't mean to imply they needed to inform me, frankly, it's absolutely none of my (or anyone else's) business. I also find it hard to believe that the vast majority of them would NOT be grateful......it's not exactly a simple process to get through.

Here we go with the "have you stopped beating your wife today" loaded questions.

Your argument offends my personal awareness and knowledge of what actually transpired over the last 30 years of my career. Can I attest to all pilots in the annals of aviation layovers? Of course not. Have I ever flown with an intoxicated pilot? No. Are pilots aware of the clock? Of course they are. That's why we have the rule. Do pilots sit there and eye it as you insinuate? No but they are aware and being responsible not to push the limit.

By your rationale, if you don't want a speeding ticket don't drive, if you don't want to fail a test don't take the test, if you don't want to get busted for intoxication at the workplace don't drink, if you don't want to get her pregnant don't.......NO!!! Good Lord we are all adults and have the wherewithal to use our senses to prevent out of bound actions. Follow the speed limit, study, drink responsibly, wearing a Jimmy hat are rational steps in the chain of events.

No one, and I mean no one says "you know what, I think tomorrow will be the day I'm going to show up for work intoxicated." People make mistakes. A very rare group in life don't have the ability to recognize that mistake.

It amuses me defending the rare case of a person who might need the HIMS Program when I was chastised by my first officer the other week for refusing to extend. Think of the passengers who won't get to their destination I was told. I was thinking of those passengers. I'll take sleep deprivation and fatigue for $500 Alex.

Fly a long trip with someone and the cockpit can become a Dr Phil show/ confessional booth. A few were out of the program and mentoring a few were still in attendance. The number of people they said were in the program was most shocking to me.

I recognize a few of them on the other forum with rants about things often not being perfect. Hypocrisy at its finest.

So....... Being that threads don’t ever drift into obsessive crazy around here........ I am led to believe that the 35 people who were fired had to be drunk. It all makes sense now. 1500 show tomorrow. Time to grill some burgers and down a couple of beers before falling asleep in my chair by 9:00 tonight. We pilots live like rock stars.
