How much do you think a trip to rehab costs? I am guessing a 100K at a minimum. Have heard we have 50 plus in the program at any one time. Also think they get a pre pbs paid day to attend their monthly “you are great” sessions. Personally I don’t think these are insignificant cost but
You make all those other things you mention illegal and perhaps that’s possible to get to your vision. But are you okay with spending 100k per over weight pilot or smoker to get them help since you suport getting the drinker and dopers help? Maybe we can get those to claim eating and smoking as a disease. Seems to work for sympathy when you up at work impaired.

I don't believe the PBS day is paid and rehab is covered by insurance....just like any other illness including diabetes and lung cancer.

In regards to your last paragraph and how once again you conveniently assign $100K to your argument, absolutely yes.

"I'm guessing", "have heard", "also think" are not words of a strong argument. Combined with the company expenditures, our exposure in a multi-billion dollar contract for someone going into the program is a rounding error. There are other ways to get into the program that involve activities while not at work. At least ihateyou(even that name speaks volumes) has that going for him when it comes to reducing his chances of interacting with "A DRINKER."

I sure wouldn’t mind a $32K a year raise for coloring within the lines. But maybe that is just me.
Flown with plenty of graduates of the HIMS program over the years. For the most part they tend to be angry and complain about United at every turn. Never heard one of them say how grateful they were to still have a job. One even complained about having to go to the doc in EWR to get his medical. Just too difficult for him!

Did some research, apparently we send our diseased pilots to Betty Ford. Google says $32k for 30 days there. But that is for basic service.

Interesting that over the decades I've never flown with a graduate from the program. I have known those who have stopped drinking alcohol for various reasons. It must be the program you speak of creating these ungrateful and angry individuals. The ones I know are great people, a pleasure to fly with, and pilots that I look up to.
The words "plenty, for the most part, and every turn" sure do make for solid arguments.
