As far as "Thick Stripes" vs "Thin Stripes". aka not looking like a Regional pilot (from what a ALPA REP told me) ...ever heard of TWA, PAN AM, NWA, EAL, Braniff, National....I could go on? All of home had thick stripes! If this part is true is screams of insecurity and is very sad. |

There is no mention of the most simple thing to fix that generated a huge percentage of the complaints. I’m thinking that the purple tie is here to stay. Personally I am okay with lowest bidder aka M&H uniforms. Maybe it’s just me but I would rather have a bigger pay rate or PS check versus a Mercedes of uniforms. Which brings me to your meals complaint. Ask a DL guy what meals they get. You know that airline that gets those much larger PS checks than we do. The answer you get might surprise you.
If money is an issue then let’s eliminate crew meals and put that towards our paychecks. The less airplane food (lets call it what it is) you eat, the better. Probably been at this game longer than any of you so when I read someone advocating "giving up" something to get something else I have to make a comment; STOP THAT!
The process of negotiating a contract for 12,000, let alone 1,200, means no one will be completely happy with it. Everything in the UPA has value, whether it be economic or life style, there is value associated with every string of words defining some subject. If a person would rather rather have one thing over another, contact your local council reps and make presentation or advocate it to them. |
BTW I have to point out when we walk through the terminal in our uniforms we are just part of the air travel decor. The public really doesn't care nor will they notice us unless we somehow stand out.
To me the best uniforms are ones that fit in, easy to wear, the blouse/jacket can be folded, put in our bags and then hung until most of the wrinkles go away. |

All true, and the skinny stripes (invisible pilot) seem to be driven from the ALPA side. Every update adresses color and fabric - anything except why the visible part of the pilot rank and authority is being diminished.
