I’m still trying to wrap my head around why anyone would want to go to the airport after retirement.

I’m not paying down my rental properties and saving as much as I can in my PRAP so I can non-rev in retirement.

But I know pilots. We tipped the van driver a buck in 86. Most still tip a buck today.
When furloughed in 2001 we had been tipping $2....when I returned 2013 most were back to tipping $1. I guess the BK's filtered down to the van drivers.

I haven't non-reved for awhile... I always use the UA discount.. I just went to FL and back with my wife and son, $775 for 3 of us RT. I didnt have to check the standby list every 3 mins. I checked the UAL app at the normal airfare and it would have been $2500+ at the normal rate for us. I was all smiles!

There’s no “giving up pass travel for a couple bucks of pay” and some of us stil frequently non-rev. The system now allows us to non-rev, buy a UA Discount Fare, Jumpseat or Buy a zed on someone else, lets not give up what we already negotiated lol.

"Give up"? No.
Personally, I'd negotiate it away for something more valuable. Like a much better discount on purchased, positive-space tickets.

So your trying to get to work, your a 2000 hire, a 99 hire gets the jumpseat, the agent clears a bunch of 2015-2019 stbys, your left at the gate. Think about it.

Why did you put a statement, which I didn't make, in quotes after quoting my post? And exactly when have I (of all peeps) ever advocated giving anything up? I'm the freakin' anti-Marvin here.

Let me type a bit slower. Ten bucks says the company assigns a significant value to pass travel and uses that during negotiations as one of their levers to keep our remaining compensation in check. Ten bucks also says that it's a lot more than just "a couple of bucks of pay" Those are your words. Not mine.

And another ten bucks says that as we move forward, non-rev travel will become even more onerous than it has over the last decade. That will make it an almost non-benefit, benefit. And we will pay for it.

We didn’t “negotiate” pass travel. All employees are under the same benefits. We cannot negotiate a better or worse pass travel system.
