Grumble:
Actually, all the narrow-body Boeings have that seam along the floor.
It started with the 707. Boeing wanted to use the tooling for the KC-135 for the 707. The mockup was shown with seating 2 and 3 abreast, like a DC-9.
United and Pan Am said “make it 3 and 3.” Boeing: “Too expensive.”
Boom. United and Pan Am both order DC-8s (yes, PAA had 20 or 25 DC-8s a long time ago).
Panic-mode. To re-use as much tooling as possible, Boeing widened the cabin, (by 6 inches, I believe), but not the cargo hold...hence, the 8-shaped cross-section.
Result: Pan Am bought a bunch of 707s, and United bought the 720...so-named so it wouldn’t look like United changed their mind.
On short guppies, the wing fairing and cockpit taper masks this. But this pic shows it to good effect.

HEY...I prefer to make decisions on aircraft allocation based on how much more fun they are to fly.
