Aviate FIFO question

Default Aviate FIFO question

Once you pass the Aviate interview and get FIFO (first in first out) number, does United give you an approximate time frame you may get a class date? Like the year you may get called? Thanks all.

I think you have to give them 2 years at ExpressJet before being eligible. The only thing I’ve read that gives me pause is the criteria used in the board of review. It mentions sick leave usage. This is concerning because it’s subtle pilot pushing. Obviously United would never admit it, but to have that in writing is problematic, imo. We already have an absence management policy. Is the board of review using those numbers to determine candidate suitability? I seriously doubt it. I would wager that is is much more stringent. And ALPA should be pushing back on this. Hard. Imagine the lawsuit if an otherwise great candidate has a medical situation requiring significant sick leave usage. (Let’s say a hernia surgery, as an example). He or she is turned down. Blatantly unfair, and exposing United to lawsuits. Or, the more likely scenario is people will come to work with head colds and other minor illnesses that should drive a sick call. But, out of fear or being passed over by the review board, they come to work when they shouldn’t. The company darn well knows this, too.

My guess is they're looking for patterns...all part of the total package. ie does pilot call in sick consistently over holidays/weekends/etc. If a pilot has dependability issues, then yeah, the airline probably is going to have some pause hiring that person whether that's fair or unfair.

Having a medical issue where a chunk of sick time is used is not going to work against a pilot. But having issues that keep popping up over holidays may call for some 'splaining. My .02

Odd that pilots on probation are afraid to call in sick. I wonder why they feel that way?

Does anyone know about the timeframe from getting a FIFO # to getting a class date? Ballpark? Trying to find out if United will give you this info. Thx all.

There is specific criteria published. It’s in the “performance standards” and is quite detailed.
