Yoke Clip Info Sheet

The safety vest has become industry standard for what it's worth.

Of all the things to get worked up over, vests are at the bottom of my list.

How is it “industry standard” if United is the only company doing it? No one is getting “worked up” just questioning why some guy didn’t just buy his own instead of campaigning to get United to buy one for everyone.

They are required by several different countries/airport authorities. My guess it was a call by our legal department, first pilot that gets hit by a tug, lawyer “Why wasn’t my client provided with a neon vest for his walk around on that rainy dark night?” This is the US after all, it’s about shifting liability to another party.

I get the foreign countries, it’s been that way for a long time....vest was provided at the location. It wasn’t the legal department, it was one guy on a personal campaign.

AAG-mandated, also.

The same book that says to wear the vest says to wear the hat half of the year. Many don’t like the hat and choose not to wear it. If you don’t like the vest, just leave it in the closet with your hat. The other option would be to decide that neither one is anything worth thinking too much about. I’m just here for the money. If they say wear a goofy hat or vest, whatever...

A safety vest is required at Delta, American, and for anyone at ATL (the cops issue tickets).

FedEx, too.

Although it is a lot darker where we are.

Not to worry, captain. I'll be happy to put on my vest and do the walk around. I'll even wear my hat.

Do me a favor: while I'm out there, instead of calculating what your $280-$350/hr will get you in the de-ice pad, could you maybe step back and say a few words to the passengers while we are sitting at the gate? It goes a long way... especially with the 1st class pax.

Thanks.

Hmm. Time to bid left seat?

As for the PA announcements, most frequent flyers want to hear as few PA announcements as possible. As a commuter, I talk to more than a few frequent flyers and we're in agreement that we hate extraneous PA announcements. So no, the first class pax don't want to hear the flight time, gate number, temperature, winds, cloud cover, etc - if they want that information, they know how to use their cell phone. And please, NO calling out landmarks at 35K feet - they're just specks on the ground anyway.
The once/twice a year flyer may be enamored by a bunch of PA announcements but frequent flyers just want us to get them to their destination safely and as close to on time as possible.

These days even the infrequent fliers have gotten a bit jaded about the announcements I think. After the drill they went through to just get to airport, their gate and their seat, the bloom is long off the rose. Still, if you are saying thankyousolong to them after, they do seem to get more pleasant the further back they were seated.
