Andy,
I didn't state that clearly. I simply meant for the Captain to occasionally get out of the cockpit and say hello to the people in First Class. No need to be out there for 10 minutes... just try to be visible. That's all.

As I wrote in post #70, I’ll do it. It doesn’t bother me. And if it is that big of a deal for the captain, all the better if I cover for him/her.

I was referring to the CA going back to first class to say hi.

Gotcha.
I'm not a big 'hi howareyou' chatting type of person. It doesn't fit my personality and I come off as a bit awkward when attempting that.

I have written thank you notes on my business card to all of F, 1K/GS in Y, and high revenue in Y on longer flights (about 250 cards/mo) but I won't be ordering any more boxes of business cards until we have a new contract. If money's so tight at UAL that they can't give us a pay raise, then I'll do my part and save the company money by not ordering business cards.

A few years ago, a 777 CA (I think it was a UAL CA) slipped and fell down the jetway stairs either before or after doing a walkaround. He later died from his injuries (lots of head trauma IIRC). I consider those stairs to be a bigger risk than walking around the aircraft and decided things were better off if I just load the MCDU and let one of those young, spry FOs go up/down those stairs and do the walkaround. Besides, their eyesight's better than mine and they can probably spot abnormalities quicker/better than I can.

That's exactly the kind of interaction I was referring to.

Good call saving money until the pay raise! I hadn't thought of that one!

Do me a favor: while I'm out there, instead of calculating what your $280-$350/hr will get you in the de-ice pad, could you maybe step back and say a few words to the passengers while we are sitting at the gate? It goes a long way... especially with the 1st class pax.

Thanks.
Nope but the entire box will be loaded and all you have to do is run the checklist upon your return.

As a PS, we have a clown captain in LAX that takes his iPad back to first and disseminates the entire flight plan for the pax. Stays back there glad handing while the F/O does everything up front.

Not a big team builder according to the F/O's I fly with.
