1) Voluntary pay cuts to save the company (pilots take a larger % since we're leaders) in exchange for a promise (no involuntary furloughs I suppose),
2) Promises will be broken and furloughs will begin anyway,
3) Mgmt will come back asking for more cuts (all employee groups will claim the pilots are bankrupting the company) claiming that we may have to liquidate in XX days,
4) Maybe a BK filing if financials dire enough or strategic value of reducing labor costs outweigh risk of BK (unlikely IMO unless we previously agreed to trade $ for UAL stock),
5) Economy improves and profits return to UAL,
6) Shareholders see big gains and Mgmt rewards themselves for saving the company,
7) Mgmt reminds labor groups that "A contract is a contract".

Ask me how i know...

There are 2 things that are as certain as sunrise and death. First, Pilots can NOT save this company even if we worked for free. Second, any voluntary reduction in compensation only lowers the starting point for the eventual INvoluntary reductions.

For now I will trust my union and pay close attention to their communications.

I forgot 1 addition thing that I know for sure. This pilot group will do everything we can to take care of EVERY United pilot. Good luck to us all!
Axl gets it. Preach brother! 👍

Since this thread has touched on monetary issues, I have a questions about our PRAP. This is a hypothetical, worst-case scenario, so please understand I'm not running to the bank as I type this. Just wondering if it's even possible to tap into PRAP retirement savings? I understand all the penalties and implications of early withdrawal. I just don't know if the PRAP is different than a standard 401K, and if we do, or do not, have the ability to make early withdrawals. Thanks to anyone who responds.

Yes, log into the PRAP and search for loan info. You’re taking a loan from yourself, and you pay yourself interest. It may or may not be the right decision.

Speaking at that, where are those guys that were just a few months ago advocating the retirement plan switches back to a company held annuity. Haven't heard much from that crowd the last few weeks.

For everyone freaking out about pay cuts, just stop.

Yes, we’ll be asked to share the burden, but don’t let fear cause you to think it’s your responsibility to rush to put your head on the block.

I trust that our MEC will get accurate info and respond appropriately. For many of us, this isn’t our first rodeo.

Take of yourself, take care of your family, take care of each other.

APC is terrible about this even in good times. It’s to the point that I’m just here for the United drinking thread, and I’m not even a United pilot.
You're just the kind of guy this place needs. Thanks. Pull up a stool. Take in some scenery and some of your favorite distilled beverage.

Mods-

How the hell do you allow people to create a profile and then their first posts are an inflammatory thread?

Ya actually sent me an infraction last week because I told a Mar2020 join date thread starter (TinCup) that he was a tool and to **** off.
Then you banned me afterwards based on another thread?!

Now a 'new' Mar2020 join date poster starts a panic thread.
Do you, as Mods.. not have any responsibility for that?!

How about this-
Everyone who has an account on here has to also have their emails listed in their profiles?
There has GOT to be a way to prevent people from creating a profile at 10am, and then starting inflammatory threads or writing BS/lie posts.

PS) Remain Calm, this too shall pass

I too am suspicious of this OP, his join date timing, and his initial post content. I even have a suspicion who it is.

Unfortunately: Mods have ZERO control over the vetting process. If a banned guy creates a new disposable email account, he can get back in. We have asked IB to change this; they don’t even know we exist.

And: he technically hasn't done anything that violates the TOU....yet.
