Comments equals Loose Cannon? Oh, you are ace of the base! Sorry about that. I’m from NJ. My entire family, 100’s are locked down.

Arrogance and exceptionalism, how do you infer? I offered to die for you but you are so senior it wouldn’t matter. Lol!

What business as usual mentality? How’s this- I think we should shut down for 2 weeks to save operating costs entirely. Maybe more. Is that business as usual?

We are in for massive changes. Any way you look at things. Is that stated clear enough?

You must be a gem to fly with. I hope you are a senior captain. Wearing a mask?

Hey MassG,

I get your stance man, I'm a bit of a cynic by nature, and although being categorically skeptical is not a bad trait, flat out not believing anything you hear isn't discerning or intelligent, its just being a contrarian (which I'm guilty off from time to time). I too don't really understand the scale of this reaction relative to a lot of other existential threats, but we're squarely in this quagmire now, so all we can do is figure out how to come out the other side stronger than our competitors. I very well could be naive, but I believe that our union leadership and Mr. Kirby want to see United Airlines thrive and I believe C-suite management will let each unionized group weigh in on how to divy up their respective "piece of the expenditure pie" as they see fit (furloughs with full pay for those left VS 60 hr lines for everybody). We are also much harder to chop up than say the FAs, station agents or tech ops employees are.

As stated on the town hall, shutting down doesn't really save us that much money. Most of our costs are fixed (A/C leases, payroll, airport costs, etc), so with fuel being cheap, not operating the flights doesn't really do much to stem the bleeding.

my opinions, worth the paper they're printed on

Is this Swedish exceptionalism and arrogance?

Have you not read the social distancing is to save lives? Actually when we read closely it is all about not overwhelming the system with sick people and “flattening the curve,” or essentially having the same number of sick And possibly dying people spread out over a longer time period.

How often does it need to be reminded that the only ways to “save lives” are to come up with vaccines, better methods of helping the critically ill to survive or to become immune to the virus.

Social distancing will “flatten the curve” and that is a fact.

However, all this media attention is actually causing people to be really afraid the apocalypse has arrived, as in dooms day, WWV and all those other Orwelling scenarios.

Like all of us your response is showing the stress and fear which is actually being promoted by our leadership. “It is going to be worse before it gets better,” what a great thing to say in a time of fear. What happened to and where are the great leaders of history who said things like Churchill, Patton, and any others you might remember?

These days we are fat in fear and very short on true leaders.

Very sad days, and yet humanity will survive.

Cool. I respect your remarks. Yes I’m a contrarian. I just watched yesterday’s town hall a short bit ago. I like what was said. It’s a realistic plan. I like that they are prepping for the worst and hoping for the best. I have more respect for SK after watching. I don’t know the man. I always start with mutual respect, for me his stock went up after watching. Tough decisions to be made pending the recovery. Having run a small business with 20+ employees and huge overhead affiliated with that I have a small feel.

My skepticism on how things will play out comes mostly from the older UAL guys who got burned, double furloughed and went through strikes and whatnot. I love UAL. Wasn’t just my first choice, it was my ONLY choice. This place is great. The energy and people since I started were great 99%+. It’s a blessing to have that level of good folks.

I hope for all our sake we come through a hair leaner and ready to kick some A$$ and gain market share. I’m optimistic we can.

I’m hoping we get a vaccine and meds this week and we turn on the flow. Let’s do this already!

Regarding the ALPA folks. They are too politically partial for my liking. Let’s just leave the politics out. It’s counterproductive once we go there. Tempers and hemorrhoids flare. We need money making efficient mentalities not partisanship.

Good luck to us all!

Yes, not respecting presidential and state guidelines makes you a loose cannon, just like many others.

We should be able to show up to work with the mutual understanding that our coworkers are minimizing risk (Social distancing, making social changes) and not living life as “normal”. Social distancing minimizes infection rates and does save lives. If we do it right they forecast 100-240k dead here instead of 2.2M. I appreciate your levity, but I also know that must truth is said in jest. Stay healthy in NJ or wherever else you find yourself.

Curious as to your background before UAL?

Dude... too much inferred. You assume, who said I was going out? Who said I was compromising our coworkers? All wrong. I’m eating drinking and smoking like normal. I haven’t eaten out once or gotten take out for that matter since Feb. Have a drink pal. Take it easy, this will end at some point. I recommend the Whatcha drinking forum.
