you say has been a bad deal for our fleet besides 767-300 pay and meh rest facilities?

For the most part I see this fleet as a gem. Very easy, some might say boring domestic trips, unrivaled European destinations out of EWR and incredibly satisfying airplane to fly as well.

I truly hope this is not the end of the road for this fleet. I have truly enjoyed my time on her and all the places she’s taken me.

agreed! I was actually a little excited to come back to it when I got thrown off the 787......

From an SFO perspective, it is a very limited variety of flying, and none of it is in the 767. Maybe that's what he meant?

Possibly. I’m SFO and he’s EWR. SFO is very boring and predictable but so incredibly easy. Those that embrace 1 transcon and done truly loved the BES in SFO.

Not to thread drift, but as an exCon, the 756 BES always seen to take it in the shorts. Crew rest seat (in coach), Pay, etc..
Then with the merger, again.. Pay and on the 75-2, crew rest seat!
Not to mention the blended rate with regard to vacation...
Flying moving around from different bases with regards to the 764..

My comment was in regards to the fact that the company could still have flown a handful of lines. And kept everyone on the hook.
As a local guy who is now back on reserve.. I NEVER expected to fly next month. Hoped to, but just never expected to.
So for the company to decide at the last minute to readjust their route plans for May AND turn around and tell the 756 Pilot Group that they would be released is not a bad 'deal' in the grand picture of things.
At least now all the commuters who were on reserve can actually relax.. less stress.
Less Stress = healthier mind = healthier body!

I expect that in June, some flying will come back and I'll be up in the air more.
Will have no problem covering the slack if commuters can't make it up, or have family/health issues.
This thing will be around for a while (until we get a cure/vaccine.. probably into 2021). We need to try and work together.
I think the company is trying to do the right thing here.

Hence my comment. It's about the 756 BES in the big picture of things, going back to 2000~
Meant no slam, or joke about it.

Thanks for the reply Motch. Totally understand what you meant now. Here’s to hoping we will
all have another go at flying this bird again come June.

I see this May Parking of the 756 a bit differently. I could be completely wrong here but I feel this was rushed (obviously, do to the lack of communication with internal as well as labor stakeholders) in an attempt to get some major cuts/fleet drawdown done before the economic picture starts to change. Kirby sees his old airline parking the 756 fleet. The numbers show we could do the same and he decides to strike. We will now be flying head to head trans-Atlantic from NY/ORD (when we start again) with 787 against AA 330/787 instead of using the 763/764. Absent including the airbus in the grounding, we have a less than 30% drawdown. I don’t think we will see the 12 737-900s return and I predict acceleration of older 320 retirements as well in June/July. Maybe we have a deal to sell some of the 756 airframes or even a deal to convert to cargo and operate on behalf of Amazon or someone (wishful thinking most likely). My gut tells me the economic conditions are going to improve in June/July and the optics will not favor retirement of an entire fleet like doing so today (with a week’s worth of terrible earnings/airline traffic forecasts etc) will. No announcement on the idling of the fleet being permanent or just temporary leaves us to worry and them (management) to continue strategic discussions on all fronts (buys them time to make decisions) as we all digest the data (both economic and viral) over the next few weeks.

I’m betting this is the company’s overall strategy while they accomplish displacements/furloughs this summer/fall... decrease NB frequency flying hub/hub by using less frequent WB flights between hubs (2 WB day vs 6 NB day).

I don’t see them scheduling multiple daily flights to international destinations until demand increases and the WBs can be moved back from hub/hub as NB crews are trained.

I’m still expecting 1400 furlough notifications effective on Oct 1st... equivalent of entire 756 fleet’s 1900 pilots less retirements over the next year. Furloughs will then slow to couple hundred a month until they see a better demand picture.

With the money I’ve spent there trying to stay occupied the last month, toss in the employee discount and it looks better. :D

Just saying.

Exactly!
SK is a gambler.. it's a known fact (base on an interview he gave last year. About going to Vegas, being thrown out of a casino for card counting [supposedly].. lol).
They had a plan for May based on the world starting to reopen.
They had a plan to try and lower labor costs by ESLR/No Fly Line.
Things changed.
They decided to change the utilization of the fleets.

So they (temporarily) are parking the 756 fleet for a month.
They ACTUALLY did the right thing by fixing the pay for everyone affected by the change in direction.
They could have just as easily flown a handful of routes on the fleet and kept thousands of pilots on the hook.

For once, the 756 fleet is actually getting a good deal.

Think about that for a second. Take off the hatred glasses and realize the sun continues to shine and every day we get one day closer to a cure, a vaccine, re-opening of the World/Economy and some sense of new normal.

(Yupe.. I'm back)

Look at the big brain on Motch!! Right there with you, I think the 756 is too big of a workhorse to not keep around with ultra low fuel costs for the near future. I hope I don’t forget how to get to London.
