Default Furlough Pay FYI

Since it appears many are about to be furloughed AFTER a seat downgrade. At least the furlough pay will be at the rate of the highest paying seat you held in the last twelve months. It seems unreal that many Captains will be looking at furlough soon!

7-G-1-a A furloughed Pilot i) who was involuntarily displaced from a higher-paying Category
than the one from which he was furloughed, and ii) whose “date of displacement” (as
defined in Section 8-E-3) from that higher-paying Category is within twelve (12) Bid Periods
of his furlough date, and iii) who actually received pay in that higher-paying Category, shall
receive furlough pay equivalent to the minimum monthly reserve flight pay guarantee based
on the last hourly rate he actually received for that higher-paying Category. If more than one
(1) involuntary displacement satisfies this provision, the highest rate applicable shall be
used. This provision shall not apply if the Pilot would receive a lesser rate than provided for
under Section 7-G-1 if the last hourly rate actually received for the higher paying Category
was at a lower longevity step than the Category from which he was furloughed (e.g., 2 year
756 First Officer rate vs. 3 year 737 First Officer rate).

I don't think there is going to be any furloughs pay if I read 7-G-1-b correctly....

It would be nice to get the company position on furlough pay for this “event” soonest. Every pilot in the bottom 30% should be asking his union rep what this answer will be right now: is the company arguing “act of god” or not? I would not accept the “we will evaluate the need for furloughs closer to 01 OCT” distraction, as an answer for this crucial piece of info.

I asked that question this morning to one of my Council 11 reps. He said the Company is not pursuing the “Act of God” angle. The further we get from March, the less likely they can claim “Act of God”.

I have no doubt the company will pursue this angle as it will save them a lot of cash. Even if it goes to a mediator it buys them a lot of time... they won't spring this on us until the actual furlough announcement.

Good starting point. I think ALPA should push for an official statement now. Ya know, in the interest of transparency as the “shared sacrifice” train spools up.

Concession 1: way past due on a new contract making up losses from the past 2 decades.
Concession 2: the huge bump & accompanying loss in pay just announced.

Huge sacrifices already.

Not that much? Help a 'brother out then. 3y NB FO gets 1.5months x's monthly rate which is 4yr pay, 18K gross...It's a few months of expenses for sure, for most. hopefully.

I believe they are referring to the company’s figure of money saved....ie the “cash burn”

Do you still get furlough pay if you took a cola before you actually get furloughed?
