Almost as stupid as people that don’t capitalize the first word of a sentence.

They also always want the most productive and lowest cost widget. Period.

The UPA does have some constraints on pilot productivity once furloughs occur. Those aren’t that huge but were negotiated into the contract at a cost to the pilot group relative to overall compensation. That’s how it works.

If the company sees value in the suggestions given in previous posts, including yours, they will present them to the MEC. Sure, we could propose such ideas at them but I honestly think it has either already been offered or they don’t see it as viable from their perspective.

The company furloughs, not the union.

Thanks for sharing your response. My post would have probably made more sense had I pointed out that it was in the context of Scott Kirby’s recent statement that furloughs can be avoided if reduced hours are agreed to.

Also, since you aren't a UAL pilot, you do not know that management has historically not been agreeable to concession expirations. Maybe now with this current management, but not in the past. Hence the mistrust of anything management wants in the way of concessions.

Email from Kirby: Greg Hart is taking over “developing strategies to allow flexibility in our cost structure, including labor costs.”

Sounds like they’re setting up good cop-bad cop.

Quite possible, but maybe, just maybe it’s a situation where the company is willing to spend some extra cash to hedge for the possibility to grab a larger portion of rebound market share, or at least minimize others attacks on our network. Sometimes adversaries find common ground. So again maybe this time, maybe not.

Won’t take long to see which it is.

Indeed. No different than judging them on the color of their skin or their national origin. Hey, you ever notice that all them furriners speak with a furrin accent?
