Its money. What's the magic number for a couple? My dad made it to 93. That's a long time to live off of savings, especially when one considers health care concerns. I've already done a hell of a lot of damage to my liver, so I have that going for me! No MIL pension here and my PBGC benefits are 300 dollars per month. SS might be 2800. No inheritance money coming. And I don't live in the boondocs nor care to. I'd love to know that magic number. |

Well, I guess we know when management plans to go hide behind CH11. Enjoy the 6 months of first class DHs and the subsequent 10-15 years of 35 hour lines at static pay rates. |

That number is easily computed. Use any lifespan you'd like. Numerous calculators can do the job. Best of luck.

Therin lies the rub. There's lifespan and then there's the quality of that span. In my state the average cost of a full-time nursing home is approaching ten grand per month. That kind of money can decimate a retirement portfolio in fairly short order. Unless you started very young and were very aggressive and a bit lucky. It's a moving target.
