Actually some NO voters are thinking of ALPA unity. This TA/LOA debacle reminds me of the bond distribution after the pension termination. The company threw $550 million at ALPA and said you distribute it. Wow, you should have seen the unity after that one! Maybe previous MECs had the opportunity to minimize furloughs but recognized the can of worms. The MEC should just stay in their lane. If you think the affect of this LOA will be gone in June you are crazy. I am sure aspects of this will be brought up in section 6 negotiations or the next time THE COMPANY wants to furlough. Will we go through this again? Can the company just threaten a furlough so ALPA can remedy a solution? It's a slippery slope.
but I don’t get any of the “the company is not paying enough for it” arguments. |

Go easy on him. This was a vote buying machine and they were played. Taking it the way they did, I understand why they are a little "sore". Oh, and the loa did change parts of the UP A for 24 months. We'll be back in June asking for more.

Who was played? The mentally disturbed conspiracy theorists? Of course they were.

Be kind, we might need their votes come June. If we don’t prevail, those furloughed could be at sea for a long time.

If we furlough in June it will be a long furlough. Yes, that was clear to any rational thinker well before the vote. And what state will the company be in by then if it happens?

Don't get me started on the raw greed surrounding the bond distribution - it was epic. |

Can you share your opinion on what caused the disunity related to the bond distribution? Were you part of the machinery at the time? What was your preferred method of allocation?
Preferred Method? LOL. I'm not going to touch that one with a loooong pole. My preferred method was to shove it back to the company and tell them "you figure it out". I was actually on a local R&I committee at the time, had zero input to the distribution, but sure caught incoming flak over it. What caused the disunity? ALPA came up with the method. What ever they came up with, they were to blame. It was a no -win situation. It was like throwing one piece of red meat into a den of four lions. You cant get unity by dividing. Stay well! |
