Typical keyboard commando....seek life elsewhere!
C’mon Lee. I said it shouldn’t be a big deal and feel they should be wearing a mask. Am I going to tell the other pilot “I want you to wear a mask?” No.

Shouldn’t you be complaining about out of base LEC titles or promoting other important MEC business? Talk about being keyboard commando.

Even though you back tracked this comment, it clearly shows you can’t separate issues, discuss differences and be professional in the cockpit at the same time. Back in the day you might be identified as a 9-1, or somewhere close to it, personality. In our modern CRM this would rank highly in the “threats” category.

Stick to the subject of the poster and leave out your unprofessional comments.

The sim policy is that you WILL wear a mask. End of discussion. Now to the aircraft.........

I personally reach out to the FO before the trip and let them know that I follow the mask guidance to the letter. However, I do not wear it once the door is closed. Again, as stated in the company/FAA approved policy!

I ask them to please let me know if that will be an issue so we can discuss the situation further and see what solution we can find including seeing if we can get reassigned rather than a last minute WOP for the pilot demanding the mask.

BTW, the above applies to the airplane and to Capts as well. I’ve been dealing with these since day one and I can tell you the pilot making the demand beyond the policy requirements has already lost the fight.

After reading all this, I think I have a good feel for what it's like in simulator land.

I must say... I find it very difficult to hear people while they are speaking wearing the mask. It is what it is, if I can't hear the FO in the sim it will show in our efficiency and teamwork.

I brief all my Flight Attendants to keep our cockpit door closed at all times. If they need to come in, or an agent needs to come in, they can knock. If they choose to come into the cockpit I will put the mask on if they request it, while they are in the flight deck. However, I do remove the mask briefly to speak on the radio.

I don't call my FO to tell them I follow SOP's. I think that is assumed. Otherwise it's not an SOP.

I've heard the goofy stories about Captain Obviously Oblivious calling FO's and demanding the mask be worn at all times. That doesn't go over well with the FO, the union, nor the company.

I generally believe just being courteous and contentious is the way to go.

As a technique, I do advise that if they see the need to request someone wear a mask that may have inadvertently forgotten to put it on, to be both proactive and polite about it. Offer them a mask. I've had two masks with the ear strings popped. If the FA knows your mask is broken they may help and offer you one. But....demanding it. That"s rather over the top>

I have seen two legitimate letters from Doctors stating that "so and so" doesn't need to wear the mask out of medical necessity.

BTW, writing up or reporting an employee for lack of a mask is unsatisfactory.

I've often thought the company's unilateral "working together guidelines", which are non-contractural are also over the top. The union didn't agree to them, nor sign them, and the pilots certainly didn't ratify them. This mask policy might go hand-in-hand with the "working togehter" guidelines, and their attendance and reliability program.

I wonder what ALPA's position is on management's unilateral policy?

“champ” being used condescendingly in BOTH responses? You are lazy in your sunset years. Was the intentional bad spelling schtick too much work?

Gonna give you a half point for that one “champ”. But only because you millennials love participation trophies so much. 2.5 and closing.

Amazing isn’t it. All I said was it shouldn’t be that difficult to wear a mask in the cockpit and we should do it not only to protect ourselves but others. That’s some real troubling thoughts right there. Never said mandate or must. Then I commented about a 1/800000 statistic. All of the sudden I’m told to stay at home, don’t post, and somehow I need to educate myself on the company mask policy. True colors my....

Yes it is, but it’s not about your opinions on mask wearing, Company policies and such.
