They NEVER learn
https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-n...egin-ops-month "But the launch of Avolar has not been smooth. UAL Corp.’s United Airlines subsidiary may receive some $802 million from the $5 billion in federal funds earmarked for airline relief following the September 11 terrorist atrocities, prompting an angry attack by Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.). Citing the need for federal relief funding and the decision by United Airlines to lay off some 20,000 workers, DeFazio described the decision to continue with Avolar’s launch as “outrageous.”" |
Doesn’t seem like they should be speculative investing right now with a SPAC while employees are furloughed and pilots on a reduced pay LOA.
could be a big pay off but could be a huge loss too. There are many other SPAC I’d rather see them betting in than yet another VTOL start up. But then again it’s not my money either so 🤷🏼♂️ |
I find this more speculative than Musk putting Tesla's free cash into Bitcoin, especially since VTOL hasn't had any breakthrough innovations like what's described in the Satoshi Nakamo's whitepaper. Why now? What makes this VTOL startup the one?

FWIW, UAL is not really investing any significant $$$ at this point. So little, in fact, that this did not even require BOD approval. However, UAL has agreed to buy some of these aircraft in several years *if* they meet their specs and are certified.
At this point it's a press release for green transportation and not a significant binding financial commitment. |
If it’s just for p.r., I’d say it’s tone-deaf negative p.r.
Regardless of dollar amount, it looks at a glance like speculative investment while on the government teat. Bad idea either way |

I guess I disagree with everyone, I love the idea and investment by UA. This will be part of Cathie Wood’s new ARK Space ETF ($ARKX), reports in the chat was $ACIC (Spac merger) was bought up this morning by Wood’s after the announcement with UA, which supports the huge buy order that pushed the stock up nearly 25%. I think this will help UA’s image in the end, everything Cathie touches turns to gold atm.
