I’m trying to make it to Guam for a Scuba trip. Are the flights between Honolulu and Guam ever weight restricted either way? Seems like there are open seats, just want to make sure that the don’t leave with empty seats due to weight. Thanks

Yes, they can get weight restricted. It’s not necessarily a very frequent thing, but certainly not unheard of. I haven’t seen any company communications about recurring issues with it lately. Good luck & enjoy the diving.

The OP said jumpseat, not passride, so cockpit OMC is included in the aircraft BOW. Now, the etiquette of showing up on the FD with a boatload if scuba gear is a different story but most crews would do their best to accommodate.

Coming back however is a different story. I don't know what they will do once the P&W planes come back, it used to be a 777A, restricted all the time. Now we are using the 777-300ER's. 2 times recently weight restricted due to massive amounts of cargo from HKG flights--we left people behind. My last flight was not restricted, but volumed out on cargo so we were able to take all the passengers. But we were still within 5K of Max 0 fuel wt and landing weight. The wt restrictions have been max 0 fuel weight. A jump seater is not restricted on those flights as it is included in the operating empty weight of the plane.

A jumpseater is not included in the empty weight. However, a United pilot jumpseating can’t be bumped because of weight. Something else will be removed - passengers or cargo. ALPA sends out emails explaining this on a fairly regular basis because so many people misunderstand it.
