Thank you. Am I maybe missing the mark. If I were a fence sitter or leaning YES to the TA....If the Q2 results were as expected ... "exceptional....best ever", that would certainly change MY mind. Am I that far off the mark or seeking confirmation bias that the Q2 results are germane to "middle of the roaders"? At least enough for a "swing margin"? I would have thought more information was better. It's not like the company can pull the TA in the middle of voting. Q2 results would have provided more information/data that would have been beneficial to a fair number of pilots. JMHO

There was even some domestic Japanese flying in the mix, such as Narita - Osaka. Sure, there was a lot of connecting traffic through NRT, but the local traffic was a substantial amount of O/D haul to/from Tokyo to everywhere in the Pacific network.

Several things combined to put a cork in it. As you point out above, the ability to do point to point started to peel off some of the connecting traffic, but that was only a part of the problem. Asian discount carriers got started, and that nibbled away at the O/D market. Cargo cabotage through Alaska didn't help the cargo side of things. The swap to HND pulled out the business travelers going to Tokyo. Last but not least, the Japanese were tired of the whole deal, as I imagine we would be if JAL was flying from SFO to SEA, and that brought them into conflict with the then CEO. Bad combination of factors, but the point is that overflight thing is often stated, but probably played the least role.
I used to ride on NW back and forth to NRT every month to get to Guam….I heard more than once that the 777 was going to doom their NRT operation from the 747 crews.

I agree and tried explaining that to him. It’s frustrating when the 15 Yes voters seem to think they know better than everyone else.

AGREED.

On more than one occasion I’ve had a Delta pilot take the FA jump seat so I can take the cockpit and get a ride. Incredibly thoughtful and very appreciated. Even their FAs are super nice to me. I really hope we are returning the favor as much as possible.

On the other hand, I’ve had a delta pilot take the Jumpseat and left me behind. This was after I asked if he was positive space or jumpseating and he told me he was JS. But ten minutes before boarding ends, gate agents calls him over and asks if he could take the JS in order to get one more passenger on. Without hesitation he said yes while I was right there next to him. I just told him, thanks a lot. He didn’t even react, just took the JS pass and walked away.
